What would that look like for us? Day to day here in America? How far away are we ? Between everything going on in the world and binge watching a ton of ww2 films I'm wondering.... |
Who do imagine would be our opponent? |
NP here. I'm picturing Putin trying to recreate the Soviet Bloc. Wasn't North Korea also aligned with the USSR? I think recreating the USSR is Putin's wet dream. |
I was just discussing this with my son. The likehood of a full-on "boots on the ground" war on multiple continents is very low. Our new normal seems to have become terrorism, with sporadic attacks in the West and sadly more endemic issues in the Middle East. |
It won't last long. We, the US and allies, will use nuclear weapons, unconditional surrender by enemy countries, then we will all did from nuclear fallout. Kaput. End off the world. |
That was about right in 1963 but I think we've evolved since then. |
Not OP. But to address the question, the Cold War has re-started; just with Russia instead of the entire USSR this time. And China is acting increasingly belligerent toward its neighbors, not to mention honing its skills at cyber warfare and economic espionage. We live in dangerous times. |
Times have always been dangerous. This is actually a very calm period. |
It is an economic war and it began years ago. Osama Bin Laden was an economist by education, and the next level of his war after terrorism was to ruin the US economy. China is poised to do this, followed by some of our European "friends" |
Let's try to have some perspective. The number of military who DIED in WWII is 20-15 Million.
The number of ISIS fighters dead or alive is in the tens of thousands. |
sorry that was 20-25 million. The point is that a proper world war would require many thousands of organizations the size of ISIS. |
Would it though? Isn't that the advantage/point of asymmetrical warfare? Remind me again how many men were in those planes on 9/11 that provoked the U.S. to start two different wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? |
WWIII will be terror with nuclear/bio weapons, all countries will deny responsibility and terror profile will be rounded up, airdropped by parachute into countries surrounded by troops , then nuke the terror sponsors with their sympathetic populations. |
On the Homefront, id be concerned America would tear itself apart. We're not nearly as patriotic as back in the old days. During wwii, my grandparents couldn't move away from their LA home. Right after the war, they were able to, and bought their first property.
Can you imagine the govt telling individuals not to move a residence *nowadays*? I think there would be a lawsuit. |
Me again. That's nothing to chocolate rations! And worse. |
