jindc - this is PP 13:32 above. Sorry that it took so long for me to respond - I somehow missed that this thread had continued (don't know how, as I'm on this site every day).
I haven't yet started my protocol - or I should say, I'm just taking BCP. I didn't have to do the IVF class or anything since I've been through the whole process more times than I care to admit. To your point about the stats - I think it's really important to note (and I think it's been noted earlier this same threat) - GW is a research hospital and so they take cases that some other, more "results (i.e. stats) oriented" places won't take. Stay positive, but realistic. Hardest thing you'll ever do. Much luck to you. |
Thanks, 17:31 (why don't people register names here...hard to keep track of threads!)
I would love to know more about your cycle at GW if you feel like posting about it as it goes along. Which nurse do you have? Best of luck! |
GWU Fertility Center is amazing. They are extremely organized and every staff member I encountered has been friendly and helpful. My Dr. is Gindoff but Dr. Franfurter did my monitoring one day and was familiar with my file. Consultations are never rushed and the nurse I am assigned to makes me feel like I am her only patient. |
14:49: which nurse do you have?
I guess I was assigned Melissa, whoI've read on here is great, but I haven't heard back from her about two things (my Rx and a question about the procotol). I'm not in a rush, but it is unlike them, to me, since I've always had great service. If I don't hear back by the time I'm back from Thanksgiving, I'll call, because I need the Rx for BCPs. Eta: all set, she was helpful as they always seem to be! They definitely have ha jobs, and it seems like this is the start of their busy season, so it is nice to know even when I haven't started, they are responsive. Trying to remain positive! |
Sandra is my nurse as well and while she is ok - she isn't anything special. I would love to switch nurses and actually plan to ask about that when I am about to start my IVF protocol. It will just make me feel that much more comfortable. |
Melissa left the practice so I now have Christine, who is great so far. I have also worked with Catherine, also wonderful |
I am currently in my first cycle (and hopefully last!) with GWU. I think they are just fantastic. I have never felt like a number, and I trust the Docs there a lot, especially since they have all the resources of a huge research hospital at their fingertips. The nurses are pretty good, though I wouldn't give them 5 stars. I have no idea why they insist on calling on the phone with complex instructions when putting it in writing is really best--since if I don't hear something correctly on the phone I might royally screw up my treatment. I usually email the nurse as a follow up afterwards to make sure I got what they said correctly written down. I would also suggest that they should create a FAQ cheat sheet, since I have a zillion questions that I am *sure* they have had before. Aside from that, I have nothing but good things to say about the place!

you should recommend the "cheat sheet" to them! They might be open to it. I agree that written instructions are helpful for most things, and the information they give you for the IVF class is HUGE. Glad you like them - I'm hearing more great things about them, making me happy they are our clinic for our first cycle!
Good luck and hoping you get your BFP soon! |
Definitely ask to switch from Sandra. I plan to do that for my next cycle (if needed). I have repeatedly asked her to provide me additional info (E2, written protocol, etc) as she doesn't say anything besides the bare minimum (come in on Wednesday, change your dose to x) and I never get anywhere. I have also had to send her reminder emails (i.e. period started unexpectedly and should I come in for monitoring). But besides her, I love GW. Katherine and even Brian (financial) know me by name, something that never happened at SG!
|
PP, I have to agree with you about GW's financial department. Brian's customer service skills are superb. |
I recently cycled at GW and didn't have a good experience with the docs (saw both) or the nurses. The cycle worked, so I'm grateful for that, but I wouldn't go back and will move to another clinic for FET next year. Ours wasn't a complicated case. Perhaps they pay more attention to the more complicated/difficult cases. |
PP- Curious as to what you did not like (?)
FWIW- I was not a GW fan either. |
Did anybody have any bad experience with their nursing staff? |
can you be more specific? |
Not sure who is left that I may know anymore....I worked with Catherine and Melissa both whom I found to be wonderful. I believe they have both left though. |
