My son was placed in the CMIT elementary for the 2016-2017 lottery. He currently goes to JHM in Oxoxn Hill and we love the school. I need some information on CMIT before I make my decision on moving him out or staying at JHM.

1. Any parent feedback on the elementary program? Lots of mixed reviews on CMIT Academy online
2. Do you have to reapply to the CMIT Academy lottery when you child is already in the elementary or do kids transition from the elementary to the middle/high school without any lottery involved?
3. Do they have sibling placement?

Thanks!

There are a lot of threads on the CMIT schools. Most parents say if your child is a top performer it's great. If not they will be put into the remedial courses and their education will suffer.

If u love JHM why move ur child to another elementary school? Doesn't JHM go to 8th grade

He is extremely good in math and science. He's currently doing first grade math at JHM and he's in pre k-4. I'm only considering CMIT for his interest in math but I'm worried that the reviews online are actually true or just a few sour grape parents. JHM is so organized and the kids are very disciplined. You could walk to that school and hear a pin drop. However, I believe my son has an inclination for STEM and I'm not sure JHM might be his best option.

Hmmm tough choice. Do the search button on CMIT. U will find lots of parents reviews. If ur child has a stem focus I think CMIT would work well for him

Don't waste your time with CMIT. I have a caveat, however. I believe in time CMIT will in time become a high performing school, but at the moment the school is going through some growing pains. I took my kindergartener out of the school because it lacked of organization, high teacher turnover and lack of direction. If you're happy with JHM, then leave your child there.

I am a former CMIT parent. The negative reviews are unfortunately true. Too much differentiation, lack of organization and lack of professionalism. I doubt it has changed much in a little over a year. If my child were in JHM, I would keep him there and supplement with STEM enrichment.

Where do you live? CMIT is FAR. Like life-changing far. We live in Upper Marlboro and my son was accepted into CMIT last year. We went to visit and just...wow. It was FAR. Not worth it if you LOVE your current school.

I think if JHM is willing to work with him on the math, I would leave.him.there.

I took my son out of private school to send him to the elementary school. It was a bad decision and one that I regret. My daughter has been a CMIT student since 6th grade and no she is in the 10th grade. The middle school and high school are great. The middle school groups the children according to test scores and grades. In high school the students are more mixed up. My son is now at CMIT middle school and I am happy, but I feel like he lost a year of math and science while at CMIT elementary which was evident when he took the test for the middle school. The 6th grade has 6 classes with 66 being the highest and 60 the lowest. Most of the children that went to the elementary are in 60-63. My child was able to test into 64. 66 is taking 8th grade honors math, 65 is taking 8th grade math and 64 is taking 7th grade math. The other classes are taking 6th grade math. The elementary school did not prepare them well.

Hmmm thanks for the reply (not the op). What's wrong with me being in the 6th grade and taking grade appropriate math? I understand high expectations but is it now considered a negative to be placed into grade appropriate courses ?
