Baby feels like a hard knot sometimes....

I am 16 weeks pregnant and sometimes the baby feels like it knots up into a hard ball. Could be after sex, or walking, or just while laying still. Is this normal? My lower pelvis where I normally feel the baby bump just gets rock solid and slightly painful.

Sounds like Braxton Hicks contractions. You might want to call the nurse line at your OB's office or talk to your doc at your next visit.

Don't want to scare you, but don't assume these are BH contractions. When I was pregnant with twins I thought the hard ball was my babies pushing their little butts out against my skin. Turns out I was having contractions that were altering my cervix. Definitely call your doctor and ask to have your cervix measured if you are having lots of these types of contractions.

I agree with PP - sounds like Braxton Hicks.

I had them starting around 16 weeks as well, and got them a lot throughout my pregnancy, and had a couple scares when they were happening too frequently, but they never caused changes in my cervix so were OK. And my DD went on to be born one day past due in a pretty quick labor for a 1st timer, so I like to think my body was just practicing.

Sure, talk to your OB, but don't freak out just yet. Especially since you are having these after sex. I'm 31 weeks pregnant but have been feeling BH contractions since about the same time as you. They're worse after sex, if you're dehydrating, and even when I need to empty my bladder (which is often!). Definitely mention it to your OB for the reasons mentioned previously, but it's probably just fine!

I have had the same issues, and do worry about it. I'm 23 weeks now, but have been having the tightness/pressure since about week 16. My doc said that I should only worry if they are coming at regular intervals and continuing to increase in intensity, which would mean they could be labor contractions. They have been checking my cervical length regularly, so I agree that its important to have that checked (they'll have to do a vaginal ultrasound to check this). The contractions can both cause the cervix to change or can be a result of it. All in all, from what I understand, its pretty normal to have these, though.

JessicaRabbit from the Confessions Thread??? You are 16 weeks pregnant and soliciting sex with other moms? Nice!

OP of the salacious part of this thread here. I can't believe I've given rise to a meet up!

mmm. perhaps you would consider a third as well?

perhaps...I'm waiting. We could have a "playdate" with the kids, our husbands would be oblivious

Feels like that after every time I have an orgasm....something about the release of oxycontin in the body (or something like that). Read it in the "What to expect when you're expecting" book.
