Should we take out kids to Xel Ha or Xcaret in Mexico?

Anonymous
We will be in Mexico for a week in March with our 5 and 8 year old children. Neither are proficient swimmers but like water. They would be happy at the resort but we were thinking of trying Xel Ha or Xcaret for a day. Have any of you gone with kids? We went about 15 years ago to Xel Ha but didn't have children so we were looking at things differently and we are sure it's changed since then.

Is it safe??

Xel Ha. The zip lines are great and your kids should be able to do them just fine. You can snorkel with them, they can put on life vests. I did Xel Ha a little over a year ago and Xcaret 2 years before that, both with kids, and I definitely vote Xel Ha with a 5 and 8 year old.

This area of Mexico is safe. We are comfortable there and have gone many times but stayed at the resorts during the baby and toddler years. They are getting older and we would also appreciate other suggestions off the resorts. We decided to not take them to Chicen Itza until they are older.

We are also going to Mexico with our 10 and 8 year olds in March but leaning towards XCaret. Why do people favor Xel Ha over Xcaret?

6:12 again -OP, have you considered doing the Tulum ruins with them?

The Coba ruins are cool, too.

My kids did both. It was fun and safe. The ruins we thought were uninspiring. Possibly because it was very hot and humid.

Because xel ha is more focused on water activities. For ruins, go to Tulum and Coba.

OP here. Thanks everyone. Yes, we were thinking about the Tulum ruins and will look into the Coba ruins, too. It sounds like Xel Ha would be better. So you think it would be enjoyable and worth it at their ages and we shouldn't skip it all together? My 8 yo is a little scared when he can't touch and all I really remember is the river. My 5 yo would love it.

My kids enjoyed xel ha at that age. Some really easy zip lines over the water, a float trip, and easy snorkeling.
