Hi there! We just moved into the area and are doing some recon on the elementary schools in Fairfax and Arlington. Do any elementary schools have drama or theater as separate classes during the school day (not afterschool or enrichment clubs, but during the school day). Thanks! |
I believe drama isn't a class until middle school. |
Bailey's Elementary has drama as a special and drama residencies where the drama teachers coteaches lesson with the classroom teacher using drama techniques on a project. |
Sangster Elementary has an amazing theater program. They stage a full junior musical every year with very talented actors. The director is a gem and such an asset for fcps.
If you have a theater kid, Sangster is the place to be. |
It is an enrichment program but it is very well established and produces wonderful results. |
This is very helpful! Thanks! |
McKinley in Arlington has a drama focus. They work with The Educational Theatre company and do a few (2?) student productions every year that the whole school watches during the school day. Rehearsals are on weekends and after school. They do after school stuff and some teacher work day programs as well.
It's not a class during the day though. |
I believe Kings Glen in Springfield also has a theatre program with a full junior musical each year.

McKinley actually has an arts focus, not just drama. The ETC partnership is part of their Kaleidoscope Project. The also have an artist-in-residence that works with all the grades. |
+1. Some years they also have a fantastic summer program and you don't have to attend the school to participate in that. Also agree with the compliment to the director. She's awesome with the kids and a great classroom teacher as well. |
