Yes, looking for recommendations for TmJ dentist.

My chiropractor has helped with the same issue. And massage. My clicking stems from tense neck muscles.

Dr Rogers at Fairlington dental. When I was trying to find a practitioner, I called places recommended by my dentist and doctor and all The places ended up recommending Dr. Rogers; however, I was a severe case (popped out of joint and stuck) and I was pregnant so some of the other treatment possibilities (muscle relaxers) couldn't be done in me.

THANK YOU to whoever postedrecommending Dr. Rogers at Fairlington Dental. I have needed a TMJ specialist for years. Dr. Rogers laid out a diagnostic approach and plan that made actual sense to me. Yay DCUM!

What is the plan other than a night guard? I’m curious because I have it too!

I literally got on to post a similar question as I've had jaw pain (right side only) and clicking/locking feelings. I called my dentist who recommended Advil and warm compresses outside and on inside. Suggested placing washcloth behind teeth (biting down) and massaging area. Also told me to get a night guard at store to try before having a more expensive one made. (wonders if I'm grinding at night?) Lastly said no gum at all. She said I should come in if these measures don't help so she can take xray and made a better night guard to wear. I now wonder if I should just go to a specialized dentist who deals with jaw issues.

Good luck to you, OP.

OP- have your dentist fit you for a night guard. There are actually short term (pain) and long term (damage to your teeth and jaw) that can happen from clenching and grinding your teeth at night.

While you're waiting for your dentist- Target sells a clear night guard that doesn't require a special fit. Frankly, it works great.

I saw Dr. Piontkowski in Bethesda for chronic clicking on one side, but no pain. He made an acrylic splint, which I am supposed to wear 24/7, even to eat. The clicking has only gotten worse and I'm out several thousand dollars at the point. I will try Dr. Rogers instead.

I have TMJ and grind/clench in my sleep. My dentist sent me to a specialist to get Botox injected into my jaw muscles, and it stopped my from clenching/grinding completely, plus made me sleep better, plus eliminated TMJ induced headaches. AND --unexpected bonus!--it changed the angle of my jaw as my giant, overdeveloped jaw muscles went away after they couldn't clench all night.

Do you mind telling me how much a Botox injection to the jaw costs? Thanks!

If you are taking any meds see side effects. It might be something.

Still with original dentist. Five months in the splint with adjustments every four weeks and jaw clicking even with the splint in now! Dr says now I'll need the splint for a couple more months followed by several months of orthodontic treatment. Feeling very discouraged.
