I just might be a crazy woman, but I am so tempted! I think some of the sun dresses for girls are waaay cuter than for adults (and cheaper too!). I'm a 2P, so I'm thinking I could fit into a girl's size 12 for an A-line dress where hips don't matter. Has anyone done this? Will it LOOK like I'm wearing a kid's dress? |
If you like it, go for it. I shop in the juniors dept too...sometimes the misses dept. is just not my style. Especially the jeans and t-shirts. |
I do it. Recently I even bought a boys Lands End raincoat. Some of the girls leggings, sweats work for me. Havn't tried sundresses. Will check that out. |
I am tiny and do it all the time, even for shoes (very cute ballerinas flats!). If you like it and you don't look like a 12 year old go for it. I usually get t-shirts, sweaters, leggings and sweats for running at the girl's department. Pants don't usually work for me and I don't wear dresses that much. |
Stacey and Clinton from What Not to Wear would say NO!!! Them seem to get alot of women on who do this and they always say that juniors clothes are for juniors and no adult should be shopping in the juniors dept. It has to do with styling and age appropriateness I think. Usually I would say "whatever" to a tv show like this but, you have to admit, Stacey and Clinton seem to always be right about how people should dress. |
If you can pull it off, why the hell not?
2P - what a cute little size! |
I'm the same size and have done it for stuff like LLBean or Land's End rain coats or leggings but I would NEVER buy a sundress or other clothes from the girls or juniors department. They are cut differently and (especially in the case of jrs stuff) made of much cheaper material. My SIL (who's in her 40's) shops in juniors and she invariably looks like she borrowed clothes from her teenage daughter. |
Seriously? I don't think I've ever looked in the kids department and wished something came in my size. Juniors, either. I guess I prefer to look more sophisticated than a tween. |
OP here - I"m not talking about my every-day clothes. I"m talking a cute sundress to wear to the park or pool. I posted a while back that JCrew is enormous on me, and honestly, the quality of my DD's clothes are a lot higher than what you can find at Old Navy, Gap, etc. It's not a sophisticated issue - that's what I wear to the office and out to dinner. I must say, I don't see too many sophisticates hanging at the Bethesda pool.

I used to do it when I was a 2P (before DD). I did buy sundresses and skirts at the Junior's departments, and t-shirts and shorts at the Gap.

OP, instead of the girls' dept., I recommend the nightgown department. I buy my beach/park sundresses there. They have tons of them there as "cover-ups" for bathing suits, etc. They are just regular sundresses and they are adorable and cheap. The nightgown department has been my shopping secret for years. |
Go for it - I am a size 8 and have purchased clothing from the juniors dept. Not all of it screams teen. You'll know pretty quickly if the cut is flattering on you. |
I do not think OP is talking about the Juniors department. I think she is actually talking about the kids dept, like as in Childrens Place. Size 12 is a large girls size, not a jr size. |
