present for 2nd baby?

Anonymous
My close friend just had her 2nd baby- a girl! Her oldest is a boy, 2 1/2. I want to get #2 a little something to welcome her to the world, but have no idea what! Any suggestions? Would like to stay under $50.

Bibs! Hand-me-down bibs are usually pretty gross after 2 1/2 years.

We received some monogrammed burp cloths for my second, which was a nice way for him to have something that wasn't a hand-me-down, and we definitely needed more. I wouldn't think they'd be too much, not sure where they were from though.

Clothes in 6-9 month sizes. Count out the months and be sure you get something seasonally appropriate.

I like to get something personalized, like a monogrammed blanket from LL Bean or one of those personalized story books.

Another little thing to add -- maybe spend $5-10 of your gift budget and get older sibling a little toy or gift (coloring book, play doh, etc). The distraction provided by a new toy or activity will give mom a few minutes of peace and focus a little attention back on older sibling, who gets a little neglected when #2 joins in and there's all the 'new baby' hurrah. It really meant a lot to me when friends of ours did that for our older son.

If 2nd baby is a different gender I would go for a cute outfit. And/or a few girly things. I had all boy stuff.. it was nice to get a really girly towel, burp cloth, bib, lovey, blanket, etc. Its not that I needed it... but I just had fun having a few super girly items.

I am expecting number 2 and I would like gift cards for diapers and formula. If she doesn't already do this- maybe a gift of a free cleaning service or take out meals from a favorite restaurant.

Food. Dinner. A cleaning service.

At least that is what I would have liked best!

Diapers are always welcome I guess. But some small personalized gift is also very sweet i think, or a little toy.
But as it has already been mentioned, I would also get a small present for the older child.

Great idea for getting older sibling a little something.
