Recommended in-home daycares in Arlington?

Anonymous
I've been looking for an in-home daycare center for my 18 month old, using the Arlington County list of providers as a guide. I've visited a few, and I was really disappointed with the apparent quality of care. Can anyone recommend a good in-home daycare in Arlington? I'm North Arlington (22207 zip code), but I'd be willing to drive a little for a really good provider. Thanks!

we looked at one in south arlington 22206 (not far from the walter reed rec center) - her name was Olivia Gomes. we LOVED her, but the 2 times we contacted her looking for a spot she was booked up. Worth contacting though. i think she takes 5 kids and it is her and an assistant.

Mi Casita (it's the name of the place - it is a liscensed business but out of someone's home). The name on the Arlington list is Emily Dicicco. It is very very loving. It is bi-lingual. No TV. 3 woman watch 9 kids. It is in the basement of Emily's house, and there is a separate sleeping room. They also go outdoors a lot (they have a play area, they go on walks to the park in back of her house).

They are usually full, but it's always good to call and find out. But it is very expensive. While I hated when my son outgrew it, I also was happy to some financial freedom. But for an infant, the loving environment can't be beat. I'm blanking on the ZIP - near Yorktown highschool if that helps.

Thanks to both of you. I already called Mi Casita, based on rave reviews from a friend & rumors of an upcoming space, but it's too expensive for us.

Few families can actually afford childcare, but almost everyone thinks he/she just has to have it. Why?

To the poster who called Mi Casa, can I ask how much you were quoted per month? Just wondering what the difference in cost is for home care vs. a facility.

Thanks!

The person that watches my 2 year old has an opening now in her licensed family day care. (I actually came online to post a general statement that she has an opening, so I decided to post to your question as well. Others on DC UrbanMoms have used her as well.)

She's been a blessing to our family, and has watched my daughter (now in preschool) and my son since they were infants, and both have loved going there. She and her family are very nurturing, loving, and reliable. She watches a few kids up to the age of about 3 1/2 years in her home.

Her home is located in Falls Church City near Broad Street (Rt 7) and Lee Highway. I drop my son off, and then drive to West Falls Church metro to park and ride the metro to work, so her location is convenient as well.

If you're interested call Shoba directly at 703-534-5088.

Thanks so much--I will call Shoba today.

Re--Mi Casita, I was told by someone who has her child in the daycare that it is $1,800/month.

WOW - $1800 for in home? Maybe I am naive, but my understanding was in home care was for the most part, less expensive than centers. That is crazy!

I was the poster that used to have my child there. I thought what you thought, but found that the good in-home places were all in fact more expensive than centers. All the in-home ones I saw that were cheaper then centers, where cheaper for a reason. Mi Casita was wonderful, but yes, clearly too expensive for some. We really really stretched our budget to keep our child there (luckily we left before the jump to $1800) For us it was worth it, because we had such a horrible experience in a center daycare. I think you really need a loving environment for infants and young toddlers, and you get that at Mi Casita.

We love our home day care provider C&L Childcare (Calvin and Luida Mitchell) in South Arlington (22204). They are licensed through the county and state. It's a husband, wife and their grandson that provide care and they absolutely love the kids. My DS has been there since he was 5 months old, he's 13 months now. I'm not thrilled to be working full time, but my son loves daycare so much, he often fusses when it's time to go home.
