Developmental Pediatrician

Anonymous
My DD is two and her daycare just recommended that I take her to see a developmental pediatrician. They didn't say specifically what the problem is though. I feel as though I've been punched in the gut. How am I supposed to even know what to ask? Of course, I immediately emailed back asking what I should be concerned about. Haven't heard back yet.

She does still do the toe-walking. And although she speaks and speaks frequently (using 4+ words) she doesn't really articulate well. The last time I saw her pediatrician, which was six months ago, I mentioned both of these things and he basically blew them off.

Should I just call up the developmental pediatrician? Will they know what to look for or do I need to be specific (ie Little Larla has a problem with X)?

I think you need more info from the daycare. What are they seeing in her behavior, speech, etc that they do not feel is developmentally on-target?

So you mentioned these things to your ped, which means that you were concerned. Now the school is concerned. Please go to a dev ped. If you need a recommendation, go back to your ped and tell them I no uncertain terms that you want a referral ( if needed by your insurance)... And get it scheduled.

I am so adamant bc my ped blew off my concerns until my child was almost 3.5 years old. That is a lot of time for missed therapy and services that we could have had.

Please call and get a dev ped to answer your questions and concerns.

Also call Childfind and get a free eval.

Many peds offices are so busy.. they miss all kinds of things
My son's diagnosis was missed by not 1 but 2 offices then diagnosed by both early intervention and Kennedy Krieger

Bless your heart, it has to be so hard getting that call from the daycare without any explanation. I agree with the others, it wouldn't hurt to contact the pediatrician and ask for a referral just to get an opinion. Have you tried calling the daycare to get a quicker response?
