Leeway Heights, Arlington

Does anyway have any insight into the Leeway Heights neighborhood in Arlington and Tuckahoe elementary school in particular? We were considering buying a house here and wanted to find as much information about the neighborhood. In terms of statistics, I know that Tuckahoe is a good elementary school but I would love to hear people's individual experiences with respect to the schools and area. Thanks!

This is where we live and we love it. Lots of families (almost ALL families on our block) and very, very friendly and involved neighbors. We don't have school-aged kids yet but all of our neighbors with kids at Tuckahoe have been really happy with it.

Glad to hear that it is a family friendly area!

We live near Tuckahoe but our son is only 2, so not going there yet. Not sure where Leeway Heights is (and I probably live there) but we love this part of Arlington and think it is chock full of families with kids of all ages. Very friendly people, block parties in the summer, lots of parks and stuff in walking distance (though more would be good, of course). The biggest problem we have found, and it is big for us, is the traffic heading to and from Bishop O'Connell high school. The drivers there have very little regard for the fact that they are driving through a residential neighborhood and we find many who blow through stop signs, clog up traffic by stopping where there are no stops signs, and just generally driving recklessly.
BUT, we love the area and hear great things about the elementary school from friends who send their kids there. Also, we have been in and around it to vote and play on the playground and it just looks terrific, with gardens and projects and good kid stuff.

I practically grew up there! It's a great neighborhood. Excellent schools, parks, local mini market, close to metro, close to restaurants and shopping, peaceful and everytime I drive through there I think how lush and green it is.

If you're really close to Tuckahoe and affected by O'Connell traffic you don't live in Leeway Heights - the western boundary I think is Lexington Street.
