My baby will be 2 months old when this class starts - but he's very physically developed...held his head up at birth, etc.
Has anyone taken this class? Is he too young for it? It's $90 so I don't want to waste my money if it is no good. thanks! |
I am responding in the hope that you'll get another shot at a response. One of my friends took it with her baby boy and liked it, but given the price, I'd like more feedback. I've been taking the VHC pre-natal yoga class and like it, but not sure if I would do it again for the price.
Of course, I think if it was 2x a week, I'd get more out of it (even if it cost more), and the baby yoga class might be the same way. |
I took it with my son 2 years ago when he was a baby. In all honesty, the class was mostly about meeting other moms with little ones than it was about anything miraculous with my son. In fact, he would often fall asleep in the car on the way to class and sleep right through it. That said, the teacher was really nice and it was nice to have a reason to get out and about. |
I agree with the PP, but also liked that it gave me a few more activites to do to engage my son at that age (I could only sing wheels on the bus so many times). My son also did notice the other babies and enjoyed watching them, so it was nice for both of us to have a change of pace. |
We're in the class right now. I'd actually recommend it for a 2-month old, more so than for an older baby.
It's not really yoga as you would think of it. You are physically helping your baby stretch and using chanting, sing-songy type words to get their attention. I think it is better for babies who aren't quite totally alert to the world yet and who aren't on a strict napping schedule (also because the classes tend to be during naptimes, unfortunately). The assisted tummy time is especially good for the younger babies because they have incentive to do it in class facing the other babies. There is a range of ages in the class, so some "poses" are better for different ages. Be forewarned: there is a lot of talking and trying to help the mothers bond. Sometimes the actual yoga is only 15-20 minutes of the 45-minute class! The teacher is very, very sweet and the babies love her voice. But in terms of being active the whole time, if that is your expectation then you will be disappointed. However, the poses/exercises you learn you can do at home for practice easily. We are probably not signing up again because of the conflict with naptime. I do wish we would have done the class around 2-4 months rather than 6-9. |
I bought mats and kiddie yoga videos. Both my older one and younger one enjoy it. |
