We are planning a trip to Florida next month. We booked flights to Tampa and plan to go to Clearwater Beach.
Can you recommend other things to do in the area? We are military. I know we can get free admission to SeaWorld. Would it be worth the drive to SeaWorld in Orlando vs just visiting the Florida Aquarium? |
Visit Winter the Dolphin at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium
Legoland isn't as far as Orlando |
Salvador Dali Museum |
Clearwater marine aquarium is good. Can go on a cruise on a pirate ship from near there in clearwater. North of clearwater 20 minutes is honeymoon island. Great beach there. |
Busch Gardens Tampa! |
Check the threads on Sarasota, St. Pete. Lots of great local stuff to do in addition to the beach! |
Not sure how old your kids are but there is an awesome kids museum in St Pete. It's a great option for a rainy day. |
Depending on when you get there, go see the Phillies play at Brighthouse stadium. Spring training is on until Easter this year, I think. |
Lowry zoo is awesome in Tampa. Entire foot loved it. Highlights include the opportunity to feed the giraffes and ride a camel and other animals. Flamingo exhibit. The zoo appeared animal friendly. We also enjoyed a day at the aquarium and drove to fort desoto beach and spent the afternoon. Great beach. |
Gator World! |
OP here. My kids are ages 4 and 6. This place looks great. I will definitely do a day trip to St Petersburg. Also will add Lowry Zoo and Clearwater Aquarium. Clearwater Aquarium has a Sea Safari I think our kids would really enjoy. We will skip theme parks for this trip. We are going for spring break so crowds will be even larger than normal. |
Interesting place but my kids saw several things that they weren't quite prepared for. Dali was a strange character... |
Take the ferry to caladesi island state park |
Homosassa Springs State Park is just north of the Clearwater area.

Pinnellas County Heritage Museum in Largo (suburb of Tampa). Excellent museum. Also drove up to weeki-wachee state park. And Tarpon Springs. And love Fort Desoto Park. |
