| Are there parents from this school? I'm considering this school for the immersion program but I'm worried that the academics are too lacking ( based on test scores). What has your experience been like? What would you list as the pros and cons? Is the immersion program strong? What about academics? And socialization? For so many question just running out of time till the deadline. Thanks for any help. |
| Their test scores seem great to me. Compare them with another school, like Bancroft, that has a similar population. I know a few families there who are very happy, but they do say that PS/PK are more structured than in DCPS, eg, parents are asked to use phonics flashcards at home. It is a more academic model of preschool than we would like. |
| Test scores for the older kids seem great to me but test scores for the younger kids seems to be lacking a lot. |
| That's interesting that with such a structured pk, that the early test scores would suffer. |
| There overall test scores are in the 60s, and that's with a 75% Spanish-speaking population. I think they are very good (and they are about double the proficiency rates for my in-boundary school). The question is whether you think your child will do well there--it sounds like the person who is bothered by the scores doesn't think that his or her child can do well if the scores aren't higher. Personally, I think that it would be fine for my kid. We didn't get in last year, despite having it at the top of our list, and at this point, we're not going to reapply because we are happy at our inbounds school and think the structured PK4 would be too much for our kid. |
| As a parent with a child in DC Biligual PCS, I would agree that the approach is very structured and very academic in the PK clases. I would add that we are very happy and the staff and children are great. |
| Any word on the move? When and what vicinity? |
m What makes you think they are moving? They lost the Lee building. They have been looking to move for years with no luck, so I imagine they will stay put until the next round of DCPS buildings are released and they bid on one. |
I just remember from an open house last year that they said they would likely be moving the year after next (so next year). I haven't gone back for an open house this year so before I list then on my lottery list, I wanted to see if anyone could share the latest info. Thanks! |
They bid on the Mamie D Lee building in Ft. Totten and lost to Bridges. |
| Has DC Bilingual found ways to get all families (both higher SES and lower SES Latino) together outside of school hours for social events? What are some examples? We really struggle with this at our Title I DCPS. |
| Very interested in DC Bilingual. Chances of getting in? We are K. |
