I can't seem to lose weight!!!!

Anonymous
To start, I haven't gained a lot of weight during pregnancy, and seemed to lose most of it after delivery. So thought - hmmm the rest will be a piece of cake. Then, I stopped nursing, and in a blink of an eye I gained 5 Lbs (on top of what i was planning to lose in the first place). I have been exercising for a month, dieting (but not very strict - just avoiding fatty foods, cakes, etc...), and the weight just seems to be creeping up

Did this happen with anyone? Will I start losing weight at some point? I haven't got back my period yet, so wondering if it's related.

I have no idea what else to do, seems like I am doing everything to lose weight and be in shape, but it just isn't happening.

Give it time...your body is readjusting. Are you getting enough sleep? Enough water? A balance between cardio, strength and stretching? When I hit a plateau, that's when I crank it up a notch on the cardio and scale back on the calories a bit.

Agree with above - also, are you in a rut? Change your routine a bit - shake up your exercise, shake up your eating. It shocks your body into losing.

I have to be really careful because I find some foods I like and just keep repeating the cycle, and even though they are healthy foods, I find when I re-introduce other healthy snacks etc. it helps.

Also, make sure you are eating throughout the day - grazing on healthy stuff. And plenty of water.

Weight Watchers really helped me. I did CORE and lost the remaining belly fat.

I'm a big fan of higher protein, lower simple carb eating regimens (don't really want to call it a diet). Try to cut white sugars, white potatoes, white rice out of your life. Do whole wheat, sweet potatoes, brown rice instead. Eat a little more lean protein than you are used to, and focus on healthy fats like olive oil and not much butter at all. I find the protein/fat/complex carbs at each meal really keep me satisfied longer, and I eat less.

Also, no soda, diet or otherwise. I swear these pack on the pounds, especially around the tummy. Not good for post-pregnancy.

Hang in there.

First have your thyroid checked. Second if you aren't getting enough sleep you will not lose the weight. Take a look at stress, sleep, thyroid and then re-evaluate what you are eating during the day and how much exercise you are getting.

I lost 7 pounds from that stomach bug a few weeks ago. Just go play with the kids at my son's school and you'll be a size smaller in a week!

haha I am kidding. Although the 7 pounds have not come back.

Weight Watchers - it rocks and it's flexible and it will really help. I know it is frustrating - I'm pregnant now and so not excited to go through the losing of the weight again when it's all over, but WW really, really works and it let me continue to nurse and still treat myself every now and then. You don't have to go to meetings (though I think they help), you can do it online if you'd prefer.

Good luck! Remember to be patient and reward yourself for your efforts!

You will eventually. I was 120lbs. before pregnancy, 165lbs. at my last weigh in, and am now 115lbs. I had my son 2 year ago and am finally back in size 6. In fact, I was going through my closet today and packing up my size 8 pants.
