New to working out - how long does it take before you stop hating it?

Don't allow yourself to masterbate unless you work out!!

There. Fixed it!

First few weeks are definitely tough. What helps me stay motivated is, like a PP mentioned, a really good workout playlist.

If you don't already know what you hate about it, try to figure that out and change your schedule.

Do you hate to sweat? Can you swim
Is the too late in the day? Can you fit it in, in some way during the day?
Hate the machines? Can you find an activity outside?
Do you feel like you are so out of shape the effort seems pointless? Ease up on the expectations of yourself and focus on what you are doing.

These are just some ideas to help you change your frame of mind OP. I know it's not easy, good for you!

We joined a nicer gym and I can bring my tween daughter to exercise with me. Makes all the difference in the world.

If what you want is cardo, rather than weight training, there is an easy answer.

Bicycle. Sunshine, wind, the outdoors, the sensation of speed, and as much community as you want.

Oh my goodness, you should NEVER hate it! Find something else! Sometimes there are exercises I curse my way through but I always look forward to going and the time flies ,and i don't use hadphones or anything.

Life is too short to follow exercise programs that aren't fun when there are so many things you can do. What don't you like? Maybe we can come up with something you like more?

(FYI I'd rather poke myself in the face with a fork than get on an elliptical for 30 minutes or do bodypump, but other people clearly love it. Really, everyone is diferent.)

This is key - if I work out after 12:00, I don't enjoy it. I workout before noon, always. (early lunch or before work)

I spend hours on the treadmill catching up on movies and TV. Hardly even notice the time go by.

Hate to break it to you......It takes how long it takes. What I mean by that is when I started trying to get in shape I went with running initially. The first 4 months were torture as I stopped and started and stopped again.

When I decided to be serious and really do this it took about a month and a half to two months for me to really break through that wall of dreading ever run and having enough conditioning that I started to look forward to getting out there. Next thing I know I am feeling guilty if I miss a day. Then I went to far the other way and shifted from three days a week to doing six days a week and averaging six to eight miles per run. Eventually I found the sweet spot and managed to avoid injury.

So.....It takes how long it takes.....for you to find your rythym, find what works for you, and condition your body.
