I was having some really rough sharp pains in my abdomen for the last few days. OB did an ultrasound this morning and found that my fibroid was degenerating. Put me on Indocin and bed rest for 3 days.
Right now, it's intensely painful. Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences with fibroids/indocin? Of course I was reading online about the risks of Indocin/NSAIDS to the fetus, and it's not all that great. TIA. |
I had a fibroid degenerate in my last pregnancy so I definitely feel for you. Hopefully your fibroids are small and the pain will not be too severe. I was not put on indocin but was instead on Tylenol 3, which did very little for the pain. Good luck to you and try to get plenty of rest. The good news is that once it's over you'll feel much better. |
Thank you PP. I'm hoping that this is just temporary and the pain will not continue for the next 4 months.
It's reassuring to think that the pain will subside sooner rather than later. |
I had a fibroid degenerate during this pregnancy (I'm 25 weeks now, happened around 14-16, I think). It hurt--REALLY HURT--for a week and then it stopped. My friend named the fibroid--Fran, the fibroid--to help take away some of the sting. Didn't really help, but it was funny. I took regular tylenol. I also took warm baths and used a hot water bottle. My midwife said hot water from the tap would be okay, but not for longer than 10-15 minutes. You don't want to overheat your belly.
Bottom line, for me: it's temporary. It really did hurt though. You have my complete and totally sympathy. Hang in there. Once the pain goes away, it doesn't come back (at least that's what I've experienced). |
jloukiss - Thank you. That was so reassuring! I am so glad to hear that your pain was temporary also.
I was a little apprehensive about hot water bottles, but maybe I'll try tap water on a washcloth or something. A warm shower today really did seem to help. I laughed at the name Fran because DH and I have named mine Frankie. I'm strongly hoping that he just implodes or something. I'm definitely in less pain today than I was yesterday, so I'm hoping it only gets better from here. |
