Do you know what chinese herbs you are taking?

I've been seeing my acupuncturist for almost 6 months now, and have been on herbs for 4 months. Basically, she orders me 12 packets of drinkable herbs for days 3-15 and a different set of drinkable herbs for days 18-30. The orders come from Kamwo in NYC. I'm just curious if this is normal protocol, as I've seen some people mention they take different herbs each week. She does not ask my basal temp or anything like that. We discuss eating well and stress during the acupuncture session. I guess I'm wondering if this is normal or if I should switch acupuncturist.

FYI- we are trying for natural conception.

thanks in advance for your thoughts.

It's not helpful, and a slap in the face to those who practice TCM professionally. There maybe some crappy acu's out there, but there also crappy MDs.

OP, second opinions are always a good idea, whether it's your Dr. or your LAc. I've taken herbs for many things, but not fertility, so can't really answer your question. There's been quite a few posts on recommended acupuncturists that specialize in fertility...you might start there.

I posted this in the expectant mothers board, where the original post was cross-posted, but thought I'd post it on here, too, especially after reading the "I think it's a bunch of crap" response. I got really useful information from this board when I was having trouble TTC, so I like sharing my experience with others who are now in a similar situation. I'm just a couple of days from my due date...I have PCOS and was able to ovulate and get pregnant with acupuncture and Chinese herbs. It is NOT a bunch of crap. It works for some, not for others, which is really no different than anything else (I have friends who were successful on Clomid and some who weren't).

I had weekly acupuncture treatments (with electrical stimulation) and drank Chinese herbs for 5 months before I conceived (have PCOS). Sometimes I just had to make Don Quai root tea and sometimes I had a powder that was a mixture of different herbs that I would add 3 scoops of to hot water and drink 3 times a day (my acupuncturist prepared the powder herself--I'm not sure where she ordered the herbs from). She had me take my temperature and bring the chart with me every week. She would then analyze and, depending on what my temperature was doing, she would make changes to what herb I had to drink that week. I ovulated for the first time after 5 months of this and that was when we conceived. I think charting would be helpful because you can see if your body's reacting to the treatment. For me, even when I wasn't ovulating, it was encouraging to see how my temperature would shift from week to week (it started very low and very flat...after a month or so I'd have a few days when it would go up and stay up for about 4 days and then drop, etc...it just made me feel that my body was responding to something).

I saw Yun Brown in Silver Spring. She is fantastic.

If you are looking for someone in Arlington, I am seeing Laura Berkebile at the Teal Center. She hasn't given me any herbs yet, but now that we are on to cycle 2 of acupuncture (AF arrived today :cry we will be starting this week. I like her manner, she is easy to talk to, and I feel like she is very thoughtful and good at answering questions.
