In Northern VA preferably - for poker straight, very fine baby boy's hair. It has been growing for 18 months without needing a cut and now is starting to look a little untidy. Does anyone have a recommendation for a neat cut for a first-timer? |
at 18 months my son wouldn't let anyone near his hair. His is the same as what you describe, really fine soft hair. I cut it at home...that is to say, I snipped the long ends that were reaching his eyes, hanging over his ears and the back a bit. I did this while he slept! I put down a huge sheet bath towel under him when I put him down for his nap...waited 30 mins after he fell asleep to make sure he was sound asleep and snip, snip, snip!
I've been doing it that way this whole time, he's 25 months old now and I still do it this way...I'm thinking this summer we'll try the barber shop again. Good luck! |
My daughter has very fine, strait hair too. At around one year, we went w/ my husband to his barber and asked them to do a quick trim. She wasn't busy, so she did it for free. She used the thinning shears, which (thankfully) didn't actually thin it, but somehow gave it a nice shape and made it lay nicely. That said, I've since trimmed up the back myself. Since Fruit Loops and the Wiggles didn't distract her enough (I thought that would be a sure thing), I ended up sticking her in the kitchen sink where the running water was enough to keep her occupied (and nicely dampen her hair). But, I really like the idea of doing it while she sleeps! |
we do it at home.

Eclips Kids in McLean. |
Thanks for the responses - cutting hair while baby sleeps sounds funny to me but hey, if it works....! |
Eclips kids of mclean is the best for first haircts. Neena does a great job |
is eclips in mclean still open? they only list ashburn as a location on their website. |
They're open. We had haircuts there last week. Our favorite is Amira. We did our first cut at home, around 16 months, he sat in the tub and Mommy basically gave him a bowl cut--not very attractive, but it worked. Our next haircut we got a few months later at Eclips and we never looked back. |
is this a joke? at home! |
If you want to go to a professional place, we took our daughter to "'Cartoon Cuts" (I think that's what it's called) at Tyson's Corner Mall. Not sure if they are technically great, but it was totally worth the extra $ for the distraction (TV) and hairdressers used to dealing with people. Hair Cuttery also works (but beware they give out lollipops and your son may thus assume any haircut place gives our lollipops). |
