Just curious. I'm talking words ("ball," "dog," "duck") not babbled "mamamam" and "dadadada" syllables. |
There is a huge normal variation in speech development, so take all responses accordingly. My DD said her first "real" word that I could understand right after she turned 1 year - "girl." She was not saying anything other than babble and sounds before that (not even mama, dada). Now at 20 months, she's nearing 200 words, so it happens fast, whenever they start! |
My daughter said "hi" clearly and in context at 10.5 months. |
"Duck" at 11 months. |
Pointed at an airplane and said "airplan" at around 11 months. |
"up" at 13 months. |
Mine was a late bloomer. First word was 19 mo. Actually there were about three, diaper, bubble, and something else I can't remember at this point. |
Daughter - shoe, at 13 months (now a fashion diva)
Son - truck, 13 months (still into construction) |
dog at 11 months |
After dada and mama -- his brother's name at 13 months. |
Ball, at close to 13 months (boy). Later than most kids in his class (day care). But he's talking up a storm now (2 yo). |
Mine was also a later talker -- first word at 17 months (we were starting to worry). But now, at 2 and a half, he's very verbal. |
DS - Moon - 8 months (because I would always say, Look there's the moon!)
DD - Dada - 11 months (DH was SAHD for a year) |
A bunch in a burst around 12 months -- up, bye bye, hi, and cat. Also mama and dada, but those two were just babble -- not directed at us. |
DS1 - "door" at 11 months (he was always trying to go outside)
DS2 - "hi" at 9 months, into a toy phone |
