Red Raspberry Tea

Anonymous

I'm 34 weeks along and the midwives think I'll go early since my last baby was born early. Its probably time for me to start drinking the red raspberry leaf tea. Last time I made it from tea bags but since I'm with the GWU midwives, they have specific instructions about how to brew the loose leaf tea. I'm steeping it overnight but I'm curious to know how people store it after its steeped. Do you put it in the fridge? Leave it out?

I've only had tea that needs to be steeped for small periods of time so I'm not sure how to consume this one. Tips appreciated!

I put it in a big jug and kept it in the fridge.

I never bothered to refrigerate it. I'd steep it overnight and then drinking the next day. I hate the taste of RRL, so I used to brew it with a celestial seasonings herbal tea bag, blueberry something, I think? It helped a LOT.

OP, can you please post the specific directions? Thanks so much

I keep it in the fridge too and put some sugar on it.

Tea will ferment if left out for long periods. I would probably refrigerate.

OP, if you are concerned about going early, why are you starting red raspberry leaf tea at 34 weeks? Wouldn't you want to avoid it until you reach 37w given your history? Confused...

Not OP. RRL tea doesn't induce labor. Neither does evening primrose oil. Common misconception on these boards. They just may make labor more efficient when it does start.

This is such a good hint. I am a tea and infusion drinker, but hate, hate, hate the taste of that tea. I'd make it cold (didn't taste as bad) and chug it.

If you can remember the specific product you used to mask the taste, PP, please do post.

You brew 1 oz (1 tbps) of loose leaf tea with 1 qt of boiling water.

that tea is so disgusting. I was with the GW midwives and bought a lot and tried it. I choked it down for maybe a day or two before deciding it was not worth it. I also could not stomach perineal massage. Had a completely normal labor and birth.

Did you stay away from all white sugar and white flour? I have a sweet tooth during pregnancy and while I eat healthy, I haven't been abiding by their strict rules.

most people who want a completely normal labor and pregnancy will have it, even if they eat sh*t the entire time. some people will be pristine and wil lnot. the idea is about upping your chances.

by the way it's red rasp. LEAF tea.

Oh no. What is the connection between labor/birth and white sugar/flour?

I recall preferring it iced in my last pregnancy, and finding it no less drinkable than any tea in that form. I was brewing it from teabags, although I did make it extra-strong (but not steeping overnight).

And then let it steep over night?
