A friend of mine has an interview at 888 17th Street NW on Wednesday. We are meeting for dinner after that. She is suburban and doesn't know the area; I live in DC but avoid downtown like the plague. She will want to hop on Metro afterward so we want to eat near Farragut West. Can be very casual, but would prefer no chains. Where can we go? Isn't there a good taco place down there... District Taco or something?

How about Founding Farmers? |
BLT is always solid. McCormick and Schmick's if you want seafood. PJ Clarke's is also not too far away - more of a fun place. |

Depends on how formal or informal you want it to be. If you want more formal, then yes, there are the standard chain steakhouses (The Palm, Morton's, McCormick's, Bobby Van's, etc.) and there are also non-chains that are more formal: Vidalia, Kaz Sushi, Kellari Taverna, the Bombay Club, Woodward Table, DGS Delicatessen, Georgia Brown's. If you want something a little more informal, yes, District Taco is in that area and is very good, but not sure if they're open for dinner. Also good and informal: Moby Dick's House of Kabob, Daily Grill, Shake Shack, Boqueria, G Street Food (several locations in that area and one of them serves dinner). |
+1 to kaz sushi if you are in position to spend a little (not outrageous like BLT but definitely a "nice dinner out" price). Vidalia also great choice, if that more fits your palate. Delicious but a bit stiff/formal feeling IMO.
district commons is also a solid choice and a nice vibrant feel. Personally think founding farmer's doesn't live up. Bobby's Burger Palace as backup if interview is rough! |
I'd go for Foggy Bottom and eat at District Commons, Founding Farmers, or Circa. |
La Taberna del Albadero is really close to the 18 & L entrance. There is also Kellari Tavara on K between Connecticut and 18th. |
Founding Farmers is not very good...it sort of reminds me of Cheesecake Factory where everything *sounds* good and *looks* good (and portions are enormous).
Kaz Sushi Bistro. |
District Taco is at 20th and M. It's good. |
Also a bit closer to Foggy Bottom, but rasika West End |
Well how was it? |
