Super quick, easy carrier or sling?

Anonymous
Three times a week I have to drop off and pick up my 3 year old at preschool. I also have a 21 lb 8 month old infant that has to come with me.

Problem: I am straining my back and neck carrying the baby but because it's such a quick trip (and there are stairs) I don't want to hassle with the stroller or try and get the Bjorn on over my coat.

Can anyone recommend a simple carrier that I can use over my coat that will take some strain off just having the baby on my hip? TIA

Normally I'd recommend an Ergo Baby Carrier. They are best for taking weight off your back & distributing some of it to your hips. But they take some time to put on.

I think in your case you'd like a ring sling. The one I have is a bit expensive but works great and can be used even with a toddler (up to age 3). It takes just a few seconds to slip on (over a coat too). It's padded on the shoulder and really comfortable.

Check it out at http://www.babyholder.com/

It's call the Over the Shoulder Baby Holder. I just stopped using mine (it's a size large). My son has finally outgrown it. So if you want to buy a used one (I still have the instructional DVD too), let me know on here how to contact you.

Either way, you'd probably like a sling for your needs.

You might want to try the playtex hip hammock.

I'd also recommend a ring sling. I initially bought the New Native carrier, and it's a little unwieldly to put on and off b/c it doesn't adjust. My 14 m.o. is 24 ilbs and still goes in the sling for quick trips. It's great!

Maya wrap. Wash it to soften the fabric and then it is super-easy to use. They have the occasional baby-wearing class at the Breastfeeding Center if you want to try a couple things, though.

OP here. Just wanted to let you all know we tried a ring sling, Kangaroo Karrier and ended up with the Playtex hip hammock and love it! It's super easy to use and was inexpensive. Thanks everyone!
