Places for Traditional Halloween Costumes

Anonymous
My kids are going to be involved in a photo shoot on Tuesday, August 26th. I primarily need a costume for an almost 8 year old boy. No Star Wars or anything like that. Fireman, Doctor, policeman...things like that. TIA

Melissa & Doug has a lot of those kind of costumes - we have the chef and the doctor. Not sure which stores carry that brand though.

Given limited time to shop around, your best bet might be a costume rental place.

Think Costco has costumes out already.

Barston's Child's Play always has costumes.

I think Barnes and Noble carries those.

Spencers and Party City or there Halloween stores (Spirit Halloween and Halloween City) might have them. Usually the Halloween offshoots open in mid/late August.

There's always Backstage properties (Or Backstage Costumes?)... They are located near the Marine Barracks on 8th Street SE

Not sure how big your 8 year old is, but mine at that age didn't fit into a lot of kid's costumes. You might want to try a uniform store and buy a small (call ahead to make sure they're in stock).

You could do scrubs or a lab coat and probably spend the same as you would at a toy or party supply store, e.g.:

Nothing they have will fit an 8 yr old. They're suited for little kids.

Pottery Barn Kids has a cute and classic fireman's costume. Not sure how big the sizes go.

I know this is after the fact for OP, but Economy Party Supplies and Costumes in Falls Church - their basement is the costume center, year round, and they have a pretty wide variety.
