Has anyone here had a deviated septum repaired?

I'd like to know the answer to the quesiton above, as I have both deviated septum and sleep apnea

I had chronic sinusitis and had surgery to open up 2 sets of sinuses and repair a deviated septum last year. It took the better part of a week to remotely feel human again. I have had abdominal surgery and a c-section and have to say I was feeling better with those surgeries much sooner than I did with sinus surgery. It was worth it for me, as I had no other option to get relief.

I had a septoplasty and sinus opening (?) as well as rhinoplasty to repair the effects of a very bad break I had as a teenager (scar tissue removed, bone shaved down and reset). Surgery was in 2010. The worst part for me was adjusting to mouth-only breathing, and I admit I was pretty miserable for the first 2 days. However, the healing curve after those 48 hours was quite steep and I was back at work after 5 days. I had two black eyes for quite a bit longer but overall it was better than I expected. I think it varies drastically.

Splints are the key. I had it done in 1994 and when I had it done my Dr was one of the few at the time that used splints. He told me when you use the splint you have to set the nose bone 100% straight and a lot of Drs can't do this. If you don't use the splints then the nose bone can shift in the healing process and you have a problem all over again. Yup, getting the splint and packing taken out hurt but then it was over. I had no bruising.

19:07 again. I didn't have a diagnosis of sleep apnea, but when my husband finally copped to how bad my snoring was (in response to pre-surgery questions from the anesthesiologist), it seems pretty likely that I did have it. Completely disappeared post-surgery (which is probably why I feel so much more rested now).

Which doctor(s) in DC and inner suburbs would you recommend for deviated septum surgery?

dr. laurence o'halloran with fairfax ENT did DH's the second time around (when it was much less painful and finally 'stuck'). he can even do some cosmetic stuff at the same time if you need / want it i believe. while recovery was painful, DH spoke highly of him and the practice

I had it done about 15 years ago, I remember it being a longer recovery than I had expected.

I had this done when I was 15 (I am 50 now.) Akmost no pain, except for when they pulled the gauze packing out and that was for a few minutes. Took about 5 days to be able to sleep on my side/stomach.

9:42 here - Dr. Seth Oringher at Feldman ENT in Chevy Chase did my surgery. The actual surgery was at Sibley in their outpatient surgery center. I highly recommend him!!
