Well, not IN the shower. On the SIDE of the shower, growing through a crack in the caulking. A damn mushroom! 
We were hoping to redo the master bath as we bought the house 4 months ago, but I guess we'll have to do it sooner now. How on earth does a mushroom form in one's house? I see them outside after it rains, but this was just freaky. Plus, we have a little one, so I'm worried about her trying to eat it. Ugh. Has this happened to anyone else? Any tips on how to prevent it from happening again anytime soon? Recaulk, I guess? I know that's not a long-term option, but I don't know what else to do until we finish the bathroom. #moneypit

| Got curious and googled. The moisture that may form in the wood behind the caulking is what causes it to grow. Gross! |

How well can you get at it?
Blast some hot air at it with a hair dryer to dry it out as much as possible. Spray some bleach in there to kill off any mould. (Or a mould killer) Re-caulk until you can re-do the bathroom. |

There's a spray called mold control.. spray some of that in the crack.

| Sorry to hear about your mushroom. Your title reminded me of a bizarre and embarrassing incident - my master bath was being demo'd, and they found unflattering naked pictures behind a light fixture of a guy the same race as me. I recognized it as the guy who lived there before me, but the contractors must have thought the photos were mine because they asked if I wanted to keep them! |

| Do you know what mycelium is? A mushroom is the fruit of a much larger organism. The mycelium is growing and spreading through the drywall behind your shower. Get it out immediately before it grows! |

Holy shit, mycelium poster!
I was going to respond that if a mushroom grew there must be something hideous under the tile that is moist... Mycelium, indeed. Nightmares tonight for sure! |
