If our children expressed the Roman Catholic Catechism on any number of hot button issues such as homosexuality or abortion, they would be suspended from most top tier DC private schools.

Really? can you provide an example of that happening or any documentation from private schools indicating that expressing these points of view will result in suspension?

I think most Catholic parents teach their kids what not to say in certain places. Can you imagine a sidwell student saying that homosexual acts are intrinsically sinful or wrong, what the teacher (and then administration) would do to that child? Can you imagine the social ostracism.

Like jews in the inquisition, we practice in secret.

So you practice hating in private?

hate & hypocrisy
great combination

The Catechism teaches this -- which you call "practicing hate." Why let us practice our religion at all? When will posters like this demand to take away our tax-status and then close our churches entirely? As I said, Catholics will be hunted like dogs in the end times.

hunted like dogs
Well, dogs are pack animals. So your analogy says more about you than you probably cared to share.

What if your child were gay? You'd disown him/her for acting on it? talk about social ostracism, you hypocrite!

Or maybe you'd try "conversion therapy" instead?

And even if you live your hypocrisy in secret, it comes out in one way or another. Anyone can see the fear in you. I know I could - especially after spending the bulk of my days in Catholic school. complete brainwashing

So go away. Your cruel god is not a good god. If we're all created in HIS image (b/c he's male obviously :roll, why would HE hate his own gay children? Answer that one for me, Mother Mary.

Of course I would not disown a child. That is silly. And God does not disown his gay children, either.

Being Catholic does not mean you won't sin -- even the apostles did not always get it right -- and they walked the real presence, so you're going to end up sinning, too. Inevitable.

And I don't think conversion therapy works -- if it did we would not have so many gay clergy, which is a problem.

Christ is King!

God created blind people too. He loves them and they are allowed to have sex (provided it's not gay sex) but he can't make them see. Until they get to heaven.

God also created depressed people, but he recently gave humans the ability to invent depression medication so that these days, depressed people can lead pretty normal lives if they take their meds -- and if they are not gay.

This is what Catholics and people of some other religions are taught, but I don't believe it.

Curious why you guys are always bashing Catholics but not, for example, Muslims. In some Muslim countries gays are executed. But your most rabid hate is directed against the Catholics. Why?

It is not "bashing" a religion to point out its teachings and beliefs. This thread is about a wife who is happy that her husband left catholicism, so it logical that Catholic teachings and beliefs are being discussed.

For instance, it's not bashing to say atheists don't believe in God or that Jews circumcise their sons, it's just part of who they are.

Why do you always want to bring the Muslims into it? Can a Muslim enjoy a discussion without being called into it? I was just starting to relax, smh

How about let's work on knowing the difference between "rabid hate" and simply discussing the actual beliefs of various religions. Some religions have beliefs that rule out acceptance of certain behaviors, even believing that such sinful behaviors will condemn people who practice them to an eternity of punishment. I don't think any religion actually condemns gays to death - at least not theses days -- though the governments of some countries may.

Most Americans were pretty relaxed before 9/11, too, for the record. And we haven't been able to relax since. I'm just saying.

This thread deviated from OP's husband to Catholic policies on gays, so hey, why not go even further astray. I doubt gays in Iran are relaxing and enjoying the discussion.

Any Catholic who believes that needs to buy a Catechism and read it. Any Protestant who believes that's the official Church position should do the same thing.

Agree. Similarly, I almost died when my close friend said she had always assumed I was a literal creationist because I'm Catholic! Holy misinformation, Batman! Turns out she also assumed I thought God was an old man with a beard sitting on a cloud. I nearly peed my pants laughing. There is a lot of misinformation out there, even within the faith.

OK, So God is not an old man sitting on a cloud. Would you say is he a being in heaven? The Catholic church teaches that God is in heaven, right? and that his son Jesus ascended there to be with him, right?

Folks can bash Catholics all they want. We're going to Heaven and the bashers and haters, we'll lets just say that I hope they like very hot weather!

Does that make you a basher of non-catholics, then? wishing eternal damnation for people who disagree with Catholic teachings?

If you claim certainty about going to Heaven ... then you're most definitely not Catholic! Go away, troll.

Any Catholic who dies after they've received absolution from a priest and before they have time to commit another sin, will most certainly be going to heaven. The is the deal.

Most Catholics will go to Purgatory.
