Our toddler barfed (mostly milk) down the sleeve of my husband's thick wool sweater (dark charcoal, if that matters). I tossed it in the machine on cold, did a soak and prewash, then a normal delicate cycle. It's what I always do. But this time, the sweater came out with a chalky-looking residue where the spot had been. Any idea where to go from here? It's very nice wool, that European weave that so thick it's almost water-proof. Should I scrub it with something? Use a different detergent? I'm at a loss.
Thanks! |
This is when I head to the dry-cleaner.
However, if you want to try hydrogen peroxide first, it won't hurt. |
NO! Hydrogen Peroxide is a bleach. |
Hand wash it with some woolite, and use your hands to work the detergent in the chalky area.
Rinse really well. |
Have you dried it in the dryer yet? If not, don't. The heat sets a stain.
I'd probably run it through again with some white vinegar. |
I would've tried to hand wash it - at least the part where the stain is. It might not be too late, even if you've already washed/dried it. |
Yes, try the vinegar - it can help with stains and I don't think it will hurt the fabric. |
No, I NEVER put sweaters in the dryer. So it's probably not irrevocable. Thanks for all the advice. |
the best thing i have every used for any and every stain is blue dawn liquid soap combined with an equal part hydrogen peroxide (no, it won't bleach). Works on wine and everything else like you can't imagine. Worth a trlyk. It it doesn't work out, go to the dry cleaner! |
PP here - you may need to let it sit for an hour before rinsing out.... |
