Half-day programs in Mclean/Vienna

We are moving to McLean/Vienna and are looking for part-time pre-school for my youngest who will be 3 years old this spring. I would like a 3-day program. I think Country Day School has such a program, but everywhere read how difficult it will be to enroll. I haven't yet applied and their application deadline is Jan 15th, so I'm guessing my chances to be very slim. Any other 3-day programs out there that anyone would recommend? Thanks in advance for your recommendations/advice !

Thank you so much for your post! I feel so encouraged going through this list.

To others out there, if you have similar recommendations in McLean, I'd love them.
Thanks again

Dolley Madison Preschool has a 3 day program for 3 year olds. They have morning and afternoon programs, but like all preschools in McLean, applications are due ASAP.

The Country Day program is 4 mornings/afternoons per week. If you think it may work for your child, I would call the school today and inquire. The admissions rep is very down-to-earth. I imagine there will be many new families coming to the DC area and others leaving the area so I would think most preschools would have some flexibility with their deadlines. We really liked Country Day but decided instead for a 3-morning a week program.

I've heard good things about Vienna Presbytarian's preschool (Church St.) and believe there are a lot of options for you in Vienna. There was a recent forum on DCUM about McLean preschools. Welcome to the area, and good luck with your preschool search!

I had a bad experience with Ms. Yolanda at Country Day. She has a strong accent that doesn't make it easy to understand her. She also went against my explicit instruction one time. This was terribly disconcerting as I wondered then what else she might be doing without my knowledge. Her asst. is wonderful though. Country Day is not that hard to get into. Yes they have a wait list but you'd be surprised.

I don't even know the teacher but I find it incredible that one specific person was named! There is always another side to a story and it is unfair to denigrate a person in a public forum who may not be aware of things being said.

So keep in mind then that I am one person. But my experience was nonetheless a true experience and nothing can take away from that.

PP here. If it's wrong to mention a person by name, why are various doctors names mentioned in the General Parenting forum? Many people discussed their doctors or various professionals including dentists, acupuncturists, etc...by name and openly spoke of their negative experiences. Why am I not entitled to do the same with an experience I had with a preschool teacher?

My dd had Miss Yolanda at Country Day. What a loving, nurturing teacher she is!

CDS is an amazing place. We have never had a bad experience with a teacher there. Indeed, when my daughter had a social problem at 4 (with a budding "Queen Bee") I asked to meet with the teachers. Not only did they know exactly why I was there, they had already begun addressing the problem. Within a couple of weeks, it was resolved (and my dd ended up friends with the other little girl).

They are very attentive to all areas of early childhood development. It is a great place.

Don't misunderstand me. I didn't say CDS was a bad place for my child. I said that teacher in particular was not good for my child. CDS was a pretty decent school in my opinion and I'm a very nit-picky person. Despite Ms. Yolanda deliberately undermining my explicit instructions regarding my child, the school is a fine one.
