La Mer - is it worth the price?

What does it do for your skin?

Someone gave me full-size bottles of the whole system - 3 bottles, worth a fortune - and I gave them to another friend. Made my face so greasy, hated the smell.

but does it really work? i don't care about the smell, nor the price i just want it to truly work.

I had a friend who swore by it. She did have great skin but she's Italian, so hard to know.

have never tried it but I am inclined to say NO. here's the reason. Dermatologist after dermatologist will tell you that the products or behaviors that work have more to do with prevention. Sunscreen, limit alcohol, smoking. to reverse or slow again, start using retinols around age 35-40.

I love highly rich products for my face so that texture would not bother me at all. I actually use various oils on my face and it feels fabulous and my skin is rosy afterwards.

It's a great moisturizer but that's about it. La Mer won't do a thing to prevent or reverse wrinkles. You can find products at the drugstore that will do a better job with anti-aging and even better products through a dermatologist that are equal or less than the cost of La Mer.

I swear it's a miracle in a jar. Love the stuff. I haven't found anything that works as well.

It depends of your skin type. It's a very rich, thick cream so if you have a bit of an oily skin or even mixed, it might be too much. For me, it was. If you have dry skin, it might be a great moisturizer.

no. it's not that miraculous. bought a jar a while back. it's like crisco. my sil actually bought the large jar when DN was a baby. ridiculous.

meaning she used it on DN.

I love it. I have dry skin and in the winter, nothing else will do. I only use it once a day and the small jar usually lasts about 8 months so it is not that huge of an investment. In the summer I tend to use a lighter moisturizer with SPF.

I use Egyptian Magic - love it. but its super rich/oily which is fine for me as I have dry sensitive skin

No. It's overpriced goo. She puts it more succinctly than I:

My dermatologist took me off La Mer and had me use Cetaphil lotion instead.

She also gave me a prescription for Retin-A - and that would be far better for you than continuing to use La Mer.

I think that for the price, you are expecting something truly revolutionary but I do not think that La Mere is it. I think that you are able to save some money and get other very, very good moisturizers for a lot less money. I would honestly give this one a pass if it were me.
