When is next Powell Elementary Open House?

Has anyone been to an open house or to their regular Tuesday visiting hours? How strong is the Spanish immersion program? Are children speaking well in Spanish in classes, reading and writing in Spanish?

I believe it's every Tuesday.

I was curious about the open house (one was postponed from dec 10) as opposed to the regular Tuesday visits....anyone know the postponed date for the one cancelled?

The open house was this past Tuesday. There will another open house in January soon after the break and we are also looking to schedule one for February. You are also free to stop by any Tuesday at 9 for a tour.

Terrific, thanks for the info! I am loving all the positive vibe on what happens to be my neighborhood school. Yay!

Thanks! One general question I have is the # of kids last year who were accepted OOB with no proximity preference for PS3. I don't mean in the initial lottery, because that info is easy to find, but rather ultimately up until count day. I would be applying OOB and don't want to put a school down where I really have no chance. I'm trying to decide between Powell, Marie-Reed, and Bancroft which might take some OOB students. Many thanks.

NP, PP you ask a good question, but you should also ask how far down the waitlist they went up to count day to accept those students. By the time we got into Powell OOB last year, we had already gotten a spot at our top choice, but I really loved Powell when we visited. To try to assess your chances, it's not only how many OOB students they accepted, but how many offers they made before getting those students.

Then again, the preference/ranking parts of this year's process may cut (or should cut) a lot of the offers to people who've accepted somewhere else away, so maybe it'll be much more efficient this year? Just trying to be helpful (but maybe being more confusing LOL!).

This is very helpful--thanks! To clarify, then, I am looking for how far down the waitlist Powell went. And I agree that the common lottery makes it all very different this year!
