Where is the cheapest place to buy firewood?

Anonymous
I am new to a fireplace and don't know where to buy firewood...
Besides the garden store or Amazon, any suggestions?

Thanks!

7-11 usually has it. If you have room to store it, I would just get some delivered.

Where do you live? There are folks in more rural areas who sell by the cord or half cord. Sometimes you can get it free if you pick it up. Try Craig's list if you don't get out to areas like that. Make sure it's chopped and split, unless you don't mind doing that yourself.

Definitely get it delivered to your house, you can find people nearby online. We live in Alexandria, and there's a guy just a couple streets over that delivers a pick up truck bed full of split seasoned wood for $125. He just leaves it in a pile, you have to stack it yourself.

We used to do this also. But then we went out on a Sunday for a drive to visit our child on the Eastern Shore. We loaded up our pick up for $25. Wood is seasoned and great. The guy told us he brings it into the DC region all the time and sells it for multiple times what we paid.

Thanks... Where did you find this person? Or did you just see the firewood while driving around?

I'm wondering what is a reasonable price for a cord or half cord of wood. I always have a feeling that the "folks from rurla areas" rip me off.

We were on 50 I think. It was on the main road heading to the beach.

They will, but knowing what a reasonable price for a cord or half a cord won't help you. They will rip you off by giving you poor quality wood (e.g. tulip poplar), or by giving you much less than a cord or a half cord - do you know how much a cord is?

Most won't. Unless you're an ass, I guess. Even then they'd just talk about you after you left.

+1. A chord is 128 cu. ft. or 4x4x8, neatly stacked. They will give the pp wet wood, too.

This why they will rip you off. Because you are an elitist ass

We bought from this place:

They will not stack it, but it was a HUGE amount of wood with large logs and will last us at least 2-3 years.
