Ipod docking station - alternatives to Bose?

Anonymous
I'm looking for an ipod docking station to play music at home (does not need to be portable).

Any quality alternatives to Bose? I'm hoping to find something less expensive (around $100 would be ideal).

Thanks!

I have been researching this, and although nothing can compare to Bose, the reviews I've read point to Altec Lansing's inMotion600. The sound, according to reviews, is the closest in quality, to Bose. It's around $100-$150, which is still a fraction of what Bose costs!

Although, I'm specifically looking for portable, so I haven't checked out the non-portables.

Glad to see this thread--we're looking for something similar, possibly with radio and cd player, too.

We don't need something portable, either, but thanks for the heads-up on the inMotion 600. Looks like it's only $79.99 on amazon right now!

I think the Bose is worth the money. They also offer (actually you have to ask) an interest free payment plan. Paying $29 a month mad it seem a little easier.

I have a JBL On Stage and I really liked it. Works great for the kitchen living room area in my fairly small apartment. Not sure how big the sound would be in a larger house but might be worth a shot. It was around $100. http://www.jbl.com/home/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=jbl%20on%20stage

My husband and I tested out a lot. None even came close to the sound we got out of this one- http://www.amazon.com/iH52B-Home-Stereo-System-Subwoofer/dp/B000U84T04
We saw it in target earlier in the year and loved it. It's a little more expensive than most but the sound is incredible. It fills the room easily and is fairly portable.

Below is the information from Bose (seems you no longer have to ask for the payment plan). I reccomend using your Amex - that way you avoid finance charges from the credit card company:

Now: 0% Interest From Bose

Choose the Bose® payment plan and make low monthly payments using your own credit card—with 0% APR and no interest charges from Bose. Just tell us which card you wish to use and select the 6- or 12-month payment option.

The Bose® payment plan is available on orders of $299 – $1500* paid by major credit card. The 6-month option (web-based orders only) includes an initial down payment of 1/6 the product price plus tax and shipping charges, charged when your order is shipped. Then your credit card will be billed for five (5) equal, monthly installments beginning approximately one month from the date your order is shipped. The 12-month option includes an initial down payment of 1/12 the product price plus tax and shipping charges, charged when your order is shipped. Then your credit card will be billed for eleven (11) equal, monthly installments beginning approximately one month from the date your order is shipped.

Credit card rules and interest may apply. US residents only. Limit one active financing program per customer. Cannot be combined with gift cards. Order confirmation, payment schedules and other pertinent financing information will be sent to your billing address.

*Separate financing options may be available on select products.

We are also very happy with our JBL On Stage.

Thanks all for the info on the Bose and the financing. I am also coveting a Bose for Christmas. DP and I kind of decided that we would do this and nothing else for each other, but we've had some unexpected bills and it seemed extravagent. Still, with interest free payments over 6 months, I could make this work!

Yes to JBL Onstage. Sounds like a big stereo and is more than easy to use.
