Does Your Head Get Really Cold During Winter?

Do you wear hats often during cold weather?

Does your head get really cold?

It depends on whether I'm standing around outside, or being active (walking around, exercising).

It gets cold if I'm not doing a lot of moving, but warm and even sweaty in cold weather, if I'm exercising or walking - particularly in the back of my head.

My ears get very cold though, so I usually go outside with some kind of earband/muffs, or hat that covers my ears but allows my head to "breathe."

I wear ear muffs and a scarf all winter, since it's my ears and neck that feel the cold.

So, your scalp/head doesn't get cold.

Do you have a lot of hair?

No, my ears do, but I have very thick hair so I have a built-in hat

No, I have a normal head of hair. Maybe I'm hotheaded?

I run hot all over, aside from the ears and neck. I go bare legged and sockless and just wear a light coat all winter, but got to have the ear muffs/scarf.

I dont wear a hat. I get too hot. I do wear a good ski style jacket and gloves though.

I'm female and have long hair. I don't wear hats (they mess up my curly hair, but do wrap scarves around my neck and face. My head doesn't seem near as cold as my face.

I rarely wear hats. Never needed them when I lived in the DC area. Even gloves and a winter coat sometimes I'd be too hot in. I grew up in CT so cold doesn't bother me too much.

Recently moved to Colorado - I definitely use a winter coat and gloves and I'm going to get a hat.

You do lose body heat through your head. So wearing a hat can help.

I rarely wear a hat unless it's below 0 because my hair gets super staticky and will stay that way all day, which drives me crazy. So if it's super cold, I'll put up the hood on my parka, along with my scarf and gloves, but otherwise I generally won't wear a hat.

Has anyone else noticed that they have less tolerance to cold as they get older? I used to be able to run outside, no problem, even when it was in the 20's but now when it gets below 40 I just want to be inside. I'm freezing. I'm 10 lbs heavier than i was then, so it's not like I have less muscle and fat keeping me warm.

Absolutely! I also use over-the-ear headphones. It's better for you too anyways. And yes, I've definitely noticed that my cold tolerance has gone down.
