Uh, yeah, every public school I know of forbids blood and weapons as part of Halloween costumes. I can still remember my friend in 5th grade emerging all happy from the bathroom on Halloween having completed his bloody makeup, only to be sent back in to wash it all off. and that was 25 years ago. Surely schools are more sensitive now.

Hope you have more concrete reasons for choosing Catholic school!

Aren't catholics the ones who bring us exorcisms and virgin mary statues who supposedly bleed bloody tears and all kinds of other morbid phenom?

My goodness the catholics are obsessed with "memento mori". Halloween is every day for the catholics.

Seriously not allowed at our private. It has very strict rules about costumes involving blood, gore, violence, weapons, etc.

What's all this talk about kids wearing Halloween costumes to school? My kids have NEVER worn costumes to school, past preschool that is. Not even an issue what the schools will allow. Kids wear costumes to go trick or treating.

Then your kids' elementary school was Just No Fun. Pretty standard around here to have a Halloween party at school, unless the school specifically opts to call it Fall Festival or somesuch and do an alternative activity. My experience has been that kids generally don't wear the costumes TO school, but rather change into them for the party.

But thanks for specifying that kids wear costumes for trick-or-treating. I was so confused!
