Just found out that I'll be due in April with my second child. Last time, I was due in October, so the bulk of my biggest months were in the summer. I wore shift dresses all the time, and it was all good. This time, I'll be pregnant in the winter, so would love some maternity fashion advice.
I'm 5'2", 122 pounds pre-pregnancy, with an enormous chest (32 G). Last time around I was HUGE by the 7 months, though I only gained 30 pounds -- everything went to my chest and belly. I popped out pretty early with my first, so I'm guessing I might be showing by the end of the first trimester this time. Sigh... I love dresses, and hardly ever wear pants, even in winter, if I can help it. While I like maternity clothes that skim the body, I don't like body hugging shirts/sweaters/pants. Loved the Duchess of Cambridge's maternity style, though alas, my figure is nothing like hers, and I don't think there's any possible way to wear regular clothes for a majority of the pregnancy with the way I gain weight. Any suggestions on wear to shop? Though I'm not planning to get pregnant again after this, I am willing to spend good money on nice maternity clothes. Winter is my least favorite season, so wearing nice clothes will be a nice way to help me enjoy being huge during that time.
Thanks for the advice!! |
| Appleseed in old town is awesome. Go there in person (vs website) bc they have a lot more in the store. Also, the salespeople there (especially the tiny owner) are great about making suggestions according to your body type. A couple of times they encouraged me to try things on that I didn't like on the hanger. I ended up loving them & wearing them a ton. They also had a bunch of cute items for early in pregnancy that ended up being great for nursing and or the first 6 months afterwards. They have things in various price points, but across the board their quality is great. |
| I know exactly where you are coming from. I am 37 weeks and have gained 25 pounds already. Vast majority of it went into my stomach and chest. I found this to be an awesome resource! Where to Find the Hottest Maternity Clothes: http://inexpensivematernityclothes.org/hottest-maternity-clothes/ |
| I was on the same time table as you with my first I wore a lot of leggings with knee high boots and tunic style tops. Most of it came from gap (online) & Appleseed in old town. |
| Check zulily. |
| Gap and Ann Taylor loft! |

Banana now has maternity pants -- just a few pieces and they are expensive but a pair might be a great investment for you this fall/winter and I bet they would hold up nicely.
I have seen some cute things on amazon - just searching for maternity clothes. |
| I bought everything on eBay. I scoured it for deals and groups/sets of clothes. That and I bought four maxi dresses, all of which have served me well! |

I've been really happy with my old navy pieces - tops and dresses (not a fan of the pants) because they are soft and still stylish.
Pants are very hard for me, so I've stuck with motherhood maternity. Not the best, but it's not worth spending money on this IMO. |
| Appleseed is absurdly expensive. |

Try H&M, they have cute clothes, very cheap.
Zara too, but in DC, only on line, that I know of And if you like dresses, do leggings and anything you like. Consider that by the end of the pregnancy the weather will be reasonably good, so you can switch boots for shoes and still be wearing them |
