So I'm waiting to get my period and my nurse just told me that I would have to wait another cycle because the clinic will have a mandatory shutdown from 7/27-8/11!!!!!! WTF?????
Anyone at GW knows more about this? |
Probably because they only have one doctor. Having been through the IVF process I seriously recommend that you consider a place with more stability. It's fine to close the lab to clean or something but that should be planned well in advance. |
No idea but that is shocking!!! Anyone that has info please shed some light.... |
I'm also wondering about this. I'm guessing that Dr. F is taking a vacation. Which goodness knows he needs and deserves! Too bad patients have to wait another cycle. I was bummed when i learned i had to wait another cycle.
And where is the new doctor who is supposed to be starting in July? I'm such a fan of Dr. F so I will happily wait, but I do hope they get more doctors in there soon. The nurses and staff have been great. |
YIKES! I am soo glad I am finished with all my fertility stuff (finally gave up on all the medical stuff) and am not dealing with THIS now ! I did love my time at GW but the whole process had enough stress associated with it; I really feel for folks going thru it now who now have to deal with this?!? Good gracious. Hugs to you all...and good luck. . . |
"Mandatory Shutdown" sounds like GW was "told" to temporarily close (imo.) Or maybe there is more to the story.... |
yes, it is all very fishy. |
VERY!!! And, ironic, too....Because everyone has their pros & cons about each clinic, however, most people, in past threads, concur that GW "runs smoothly." (!?) May not be the case, after all. You never really know what is going on. Time will tell. |
I had to miss a cycle with Shady Grove due to their GBMC to Towson move, but that only impacted patients that weren't suppressing with birth control pills, I guess it's also a bit less mysterious than this shut down. |
All places shut down one or two times a year to clean labs etc. SG does it during the end of Dec. and RBA in June. However they are very upfront about this and tell pts way in advance so no one is taken by surprise. I would definitely ask the nurse for more info. If this isn't a scheduled closing I would be very concerned. |
I was told by a nurse they were shutting down to clean labs. However, it did seem to pop up out of nowhere. I was planning on going ahead with another cycle and only got two weeks notice of this shut down.
In the grand scheme of things it is only pushing me back a month, but still it's frustrating. Months go by slowly when you are TTC! |
The "out of nowhere" is fishy, as is the "2 weeks" they are taking to shut down... (IMO) |
I spoke with my nurse and the clinic is still open and monitoring however is not doing any egg retrievals or embryo transfers during a two week period but everyone can still prep to be ready for either afterward. It's nothing fishy or out of nowhere, I've known for 2 months. I speak with my nurse often though. |
well i've been a patient there for the last two months and I did not know about.
Who told you about it two months ago? If they are still doing monitoring but not retrievals or transfers then my guess is that is because Dr. F will not be there. Vacation! And for the record I think that is more than fine. He needs one and it's probably a good time for him to take one. Middle of summer, he's not teaching, probably less patients right now. It sucks for me and the rest of us, but I don't mind if this is the reason because I think it's a good one. I just wish they were upfront about it if that is the case. |
They are probably doing a combo of a deep clean and vacation.
Everyone deserves some time off, and they have to clean the embryo lab. I'd guess that when they return to business as usual, they'll have a new doctor as well (since it's been said they are getting a new doc this summer) |
