We are in need of a vacation -- DS is now 14 mo and we are looking at traveling in late MArch/Early April. Not a long trip -- 3-5 days. We are open to flying or driving.
Years ago we went to Aruba and LOVED it -- but DS is too young for the hotel kids camp (must be 3) and not sure if hanging out at the beach/pool idea would really work. We LOVE Disney but think DS probably too young to really get it yet. I've heard Paradise Island is great and lots to see with the aquariums, etc. And perhaps there are direct flights from WAS or IAD? What about something like the Homestead or Greenbrier or Nemacolin? Thoughts? HELP! ![]() |
I don't know if there's much to do for a 16 month old at places like Greenbrier, Homestead or Nemacolin.
A good, easy short vacation could be Great Wolf Lodge. If you really LOVE Disney, why don't you just go there? Sure, DS won't really get it but he'll still have fun. This vacation is as much for you and DH as it is for your son! |
I lovvvvve Greenbrier and Nemacolin--are you guys golfers/hikers?--if so you will be in heaven--also Greenbrier and Nemacolin has babysitting--Greenbrier has a personal sitter for 8 an hour!! Nemacolin has a licensed daycare I think 40 for the day and also have one on one sitters at 15 an hour. The only thing I hestitate is that Greenbrier and Nemacolin would be even better if you were there in May/June because both have great pool facilities which would be great for your little person. Another place to consider would be Sea Island in Georgia and March/April would be beautiful there and the beach would be just perfect!! They also have babysitting so you guys can have some romance when little person is asleep or if you want to sneak out to the spa!! I also love Elbow Beach in Bermuda and it's such a short flight that even if baby freaks on plane..it's a short ride.
Enjoy your vacation!!! |
OP here -- thanks for the great ideas!

I would second Sea Island later in the year, but in March/April it might be too cold. We have gone to St. Simons Island (right next to Sea Island) the past two Aprils, and it was not really beach weather. The first year we were there, it was probably in the 60s most of the time. Last year, it was in the upper 70s for part of the time, but then dropped to the 60s. So, if you are looking for a place where you would get guaranteed beach weather, it wouldn't be there at that time. |
