Low first beta

Anonymous
Yesterday I had my first beta after a 5 day transfer of one blast. The beta was taken 14dp5dt and was only 51. I go back on Thursday for a second beta to see if the HCG levels double. Has anyone had a low beta and gone on to have a successful pregnancy or should I assume this is going to be a chemical pregnancy?

my beta was 39, I think? it was in the 30s.

I'm 18+ weeks pregnant now.

what matters is the doubling time. While I personally believe it's good to be cautious and have realistic expectations, your first beta means only as much as the doubling time.

I hope you get your answer soon and I'm wishing you the best!

Lots of people have had low first betas - many are successful and many aren't. Mine was in the high 20s but was drawn earlier than yours and all was well for me. Fingers crossed for you!

Mine started at 30. I had 5 subsequent draws. She's 6 months.

I don't want to be a downer, but at 19dpo that is really low, and most likely a chemical pregnancy. Most people who tell you about their successful pregnancies with first betas under 100 are talking about 14 - 16dpo.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with this. Hopefully I'm wrong but I think you're probably looking at a chemical pregnancy.

I know how much this sucks. In just the past few months I've had two betas drawn 10dp5dt with low values (28 and 33). Both were chemical pregnancies but during the waits I googled my butt off and did find plenty of success stories. But more stories of poor outcomes. So, don't give up all hope yet but think about the ways you might manage a bad outcomes just to be ready.

Thank you all for your honest thoughts. The negative responses are tough to hear, but I think I do need to face the extremely disappointing likelihood that this cycle did not work.

I've had two chemical pregnancies since last October, and they suck. When you get the positive test, you're thinking "FINALLY!!!", only to have it taken away from you so quickly. Both of my CPs started with low betas (16 and 33) that dropped at the next blood draw. 51 is low, but you may have a late starter. If it is bad news, let yourself grieve and be angry. It's the only way to move on and try again. Fingers crossed for you!
