Recommend a preschool in DC area (zip 20008)

Anonymous
We are moving to DC area this coming August and I am looking for a good preschool for my 4 yr old son.

Can anybody recommend one? We will be living in zip code 20008 so I want something pretty close to that zip.

Franklin Montessori is an excellent preschool and is in the 20008 zip code.

St. Columba's is very nice if you want a playbased environment, with lots of outdoor time. It's walking distance from 20008, and sometimes has spaces at this time in the year for a 4 when kids get off the waitlists for public PK.

St. Paul's Methodist has a reputation as a sweet little school with loving teachers. I know people who are really happy with their kids there.

Both St Columbas and Franklin likely will have waitlists, so you should contact them asap. I don't think that St Pauls (at least the church one on Davenport) has a 4 year old class. The Gan at Adas Israel would probably have spots, you don't have to be Jewish to go there.

Last year School for Friends had space in their 4YO program.

St. Paul's has a combined 3/4 class.

Temple Sinai is within a few blocks of 20008.

My son is in the 3/4 class at St Paul's and loves it. It depends when your child's birthday is. But - I know they are full for next year. St. Columba's is also already full. I'd join some neighborhood list servs because sometimes in the fall last minute spots open up. FYI your son might be old enough for Kindergarden in the fall which would get you a spot for sure at one of the local DCPS schools.

I called St. Paul's and sure enough they are already full. I also contacted Franklin Montessori but they do not recommend signing up a child for just one year (I want to send my son to a public school for kindergarten)

Where else? I am looking for a preschool rather than a daycare.

Thanks in advance.

OP most of these schools will have filled up. I recommend calling all of them, getting on the wait list, doing a visit and crossing your fingers...

Kid's Corner is in 20008. Get on all the waitlists NOW.

You may find most places won't take you for just one year, if you plan to leave the following year. I would recommend a daycare situation instead.

I would recommend not telling them all of your intentions upfront. Just ask for if they have a spot for 4s... period.
