pregnancy-safe cleaning products

Anonymous
so, my cleaning lady is pregnant and i offered to supply better cleaning products so that she doesn't have to be exposed to harsh chemicals (at least while she's in MY house... i hope her other clients do the same).

any recommendations for cleaning products? method? honest company?

I've tried method and while they claim to be non-toxic, the smells are awful IMO. I mostly just use baking soda and vinegar for everything right now.

I use Seventh Generation and Mrs. Meyer's. Seventh Generation has a shower cleaner that is the only natural cleaner I've found that actually works on soap scum and shower gunk.

If you're up for it, consider making your own. Try http://www.macheesmo.com/2011/01/four-homemade-cleaners/ as a good starting point

I agree about their smells. Their products along with Mrs. Meyers totally turn me off. I suspect that those brands are not that green. I like 7th Gen, BioKleen (especially for laundry and rug stains), and good old baking soda/vinegar. Simply Clean makes a good floor cleaner--Simply Floored. They have it at WF and online at various stores.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Norwex, but the majority of the products clean with just water (and do a fantastic job - you can google for customer reviews). Here's a link if you're interested! http://www.norwex.biz/pws/lyndseyshiels/tabs/for-your-home.aspx The best part is, the cloths never "run out", so once you've invested you're good for the warranted 2 years. Feel free to send me an email if you have questions

I have vingegar in a spray bottle and use it to wipe down mirrors, the toilet, and countertops. A good scrubbing paste is baking soda and Dr. Bronner's castille soap mixed together. I use the peppermint soap and it smells awesome! It worked well in the bathroom (countertop, sink, tub) and in the kitchen (sink and faucet). I also used it once when DC threw up all over the carpet and it completely got the stain out (his last meal had black beans in it...).

I like Simple Green. Home Depot sells a giant container of concentrate which I love. It's nice to be able to mix it up to different strengths depending on the job I'm doing.

+100 on the vinegar & baking soda- I also use lemon juice. I can use some Simple Green, but I really have to dilute it or have plenty of ventilation- something about the smell triggers lightheadedness for me right now (never bothered me pre-preg)

Thanks for the tip on the scrubbing paste!
