s/o - Where in NoVa (or even DC) can I get British type scones?

Anonymous
The ones that look and taste somewhat like biscuits, but not the same either. Apparently, biscuits are made with lard and british scones with butter. I could try making them myself, but I am horrible at cooking/baking.

Anyway, where can I find some of the british type? I want to serve it with clotted cream (another challenge) and jam...It is soooo good!
Thanks!

You can try Firehook, I know they make them but I haven't had them

They are really very easy to make yourself. DC's bakeries have left me underwhelmed, so that's what I do! I use the Buttermilk Scone recipe by Delia Smith, who's an authority on British cooking.

Clotted cream is easier to find, I've seen the Devon Company jars in Whole Foods/ Dean & Deluca - you can even order it on Amazon. Not the fresh stuff you can get in Cornwall, but tasty all the same. If you can't find it, whip some mascarpone and cream together for a decent substitute.

You can't. American scones are like fat cookies. Make them yourself. Nigella Lawson has the best recipe. I would use butter instead of shortening:
