Sorry. Civilly, of course, I refer you to... http://www.proactivegenetics.com/background-about-twin-zygosity.html#9 |
Hi all! Pumpkin here.
This is a friendly post site where we identify ourselves by a nickname and keep it friendly, like you'd talk to someone in real life. I'm posting from abroad and don't have a ton of time but wanted to say I LOVE hearing everyone's input! We are going to be surprised by the baby's sex, and unlike last time I don't have a really strong sense one way or another. I am feeling some movement and it's early. I'm 15 weeks today. I felt it around 16 weeks last time, so the first couple of blips I dismissed but today I felt two, unmistakeable pokes. Oddly, feels like the jabs I got much later in the game with my first and less like the quickening I got with my first. We're having a blast on our trip - my work is finished as of late last night and now we're into the vacation part. This is the first I've had a chance to post but I wanted to say that I really enjoyed reading the updates and checked them out once or twice before turning in! More from me later - and I'm eager to actually get together soon! I'll check back when I'm home. |
...I think some of those people aren't regular Oct moms, but just here to argue about twins. Perhaps they need to start their own thread?
Anyway, 16W today. And I can say...maternity pants, where have you been my whole life? It's like wearing pajamas to work! |
jindc:
Word on the maternity pants. Probably one of my favorite parts of pregnancy, both first go-round and now. I know we've all kicked around dates for a get-together. Do we want to try and narrow some down? I could do Memorial Day weekend, though Saturday might be tricky depending on the timing. Weekday evenings are also an option for me, though I know that may be tough with work schedules, folks coming from different locations, etc. What do you all think? Poppy |
I would LOVE to do memorial day weekend - my MIL is visiting and it'll give me a great reason to get away from them!
If anyone is interested, what about seeing if we can get a large table at Le Diplomat...(they have that glass room to the side off of 14th St)? Lunch on Monday or something? some place like Le Pain might be nice, too? I would love to do a get together and/or help organize - I'm super retentive. Also, I think I'll be wearing these pants until Gummibear is 18. |
Lunch on Monday sounds great to me! I'll need to confirm with my husband, of course, but since I'm the scheduler in the family, it should be fine. I am all too happy to let you organize, and also glad to pitch in. Mmmm, brunch. What else goes better with maternity pants? Poppy |
I just went to le diplomat today (omg so good) and they aren't offering lunch on that Monday. Brunch was fabulous there. I tasted my hubbies virgin Mary and it was delicious.
So....any other suggestions? Or other dates that work for people? |
Hey, it's Pumpkin! I can make a Memorial Day brunch work and am really looking forward to it. I can also do any other May weekend dates that work for others. I know it's not super exciting, but there are Pain Quotidiens all over the city, good healthy menu for those of us trying hard to be "good," and good pastries for those of us failing... Anyway it's kind of self-serving since it's basically all I ever want to eat. I realize that's a chain and not terribly creative so I'm completely cool if someone comes up with something better! There's one in Dupont, one on Cap Hill, one in G-town...probably more that I haven't thought of. I'd also love to check out a new place that someone loves that I haven't been to before - so maybe keep suggestions coming and PQ can be a decent fall back if we don't find something else? My only request is decent coffee. I've taken to having coffee on weekends only this time around. Not sure why since I'm not normally a stickler for "the rules" of pregnancy and "they" say 200 mg a day is reasonable and safe, but it's been kind of fun to restrict it during the week and allow it on weekends (and I think I'll count long weekends). ![]() Funny you mentioned maternity pants. I'm at 15.5 weeks or so and was kind of marveling that I wasn't showing much even though they say you show faster with subsequent pregnancies when all of a sudden last week, I could no longer button my pants comfortably. I am using bella bands, the maternity pants I bought so far are just a bit too big still. But, I'll probably make the jump soon as I don't really like the bella band look with most things.Ah, and the comfy dresses are still working well! How many of us are into going? |
I'm definitely in, and PQ would work well for me. I'm guessing a fair amount of brunch places may not be serving brunch on that Monday, but who knows. I could probably do that Sunday of Memorial Day, too.
I sadly haven't been to many special brunch places lately, though did have a fabulous one at Mon Ami Gabi in Bethesda a few months ago (but that might be a bit of a schlep for a lot of folks on this thread). What do others think? And, Happy Mother's Day to all you moms and moms-to-be!! My husband got me a VitaMix--woo hoo! Have been spending much of the morning drooling over the accompanying recipe book. :^) Poppy |
Hello everyone! LJ here!
Raspberry - Where have you been in Africa? My husband and I were wanting to take a trip this summer but I am kind of nervous about a big overseas trip while pregnant, particularly since I ended up in the ER on our last trip. Good luck on your ultrasound tomorrow - it is nerve wracking when you still don't feel any movement, but the sonogram helps to calm those nerves. Are you and your husband hoping for a particular sex? Sepi - I highly recomend geting into maternity pants. I love the ones I bought! Thats great that you had someone share theirs with you. The Pregnant Body Book looks good - I may order it. I have been complaining to my husband that it is hard to find really detailed information about whats happening to my body. I find snippets everywhere but none of it is very detailed. Afield - congrats, two girls! Very exciting. Plum - congrats on the baby boy! I know what you mean about being impatient. It is like pregnancy is one long waiting game. Poppy - glad everything went well at your appointment! Yay for pregnancy friends - I actually have two friends due within the same two-week window as me. Pumpkin - So jealous of you feeling movement!! Hope you have had fun on your vacation part of your trip. I would probably be up for a brunch get together. I am pretty flexible with dates... I am doing pretty well. Still anxiously waiting to feel movement. Having trouble eating as healthy as I'd like - or as much as I should, some days. The nausea has died down some, but I still get some waves of it. I have a terrible gag reflex though and gag about 10 times a day. Not very pleasant! My husband is also pretty sick right now so it has been a tough weekend. Hoping he gets better soon! Happy Mothers Day to everyone! |
Should we try Sunday then? What is central to everyone? I am in Logan so can get anywhere without an issue.
-JinDC (didn't feel like signing in) |
I'm in Silver Spring, and getting downtown is quite easy for me. Probably Dupont/Logan/Adams Morgan area is easiest, but really, am happy to go anywhere! I lived on the Hill for 8 years and miss it, so am glad to have a reason to go.
LJ, so sorry to hear about the continued nausea. Hang in there--I hope you feel better very soon! I did find the first time around that once I could feel movement that distracted me from the nausea. It'll come soon! Poppy |
ok, why don't you list what date/time/locale works best?
I can do whenever (I have no kids, and my MIL will be in town so trust me, I can WILL get away!) and where ever. Sunday brunch can work for me - we can try Le Diplomat? There's a bunch of stuff on 14th st, I don't know what people prefer to eat. I'm very flexible because I don't have any other responsibilities right now and like to eat ![]() LPQ works, too - but I don't know of they can fit people other than their community table? |
Pumpkin here, I think Poppy and I can both do either, and maybe LJ too? Any preferences? Anyone else? We need a roll call! ![]() BTW, my bump is tricking me like crazy! Last week went on my trip and nothing fit and strangers were like "aw, pregnant?" (which is a pretty risky thing so I felt like it must be obvious). This week? I could easily hide this pregnancy from my eagle eyed grandmother if necessary. How is everyone feeling? Raspberry (think it was you) are you back from Africa? I've never been but my cousins live in Pretoria and I think we may try to visit them this summer, depending on whether or not I will need to hoard leave for my maternity leave. But, it also seems like maybe that's no fair and we should wait until number 2 is older so we take both kids, as it's not the type of trip we'll be able to make too many times! LJ, I traveled overseas a lot with my first pregnancy. Look into your health insurance coverage and find out what you might need to do to get simple coverage abroad and you'll feel more confident. I'm not sure I'd go somewhere with rudimentary medical care, but just about anywhere you go you'll find a hospital with Westernized care, including places in South Asia. just do some investigation in advance of your trip to make sure where you'd need to go and whether or not you'd be covered (and buy any supplemental policies you'd need). Hope everyone had a great mother's day. How about you first time moms-to-be? Did you feel special? ![]() |
