I think twins means she is supposed to gain about 30 lbs. which will be quite something since she is starting at like 112 and 5'1. A lot of rest and support.
My great great grandmother had twins and was only 4'10 and small of frame. And that was in the middle of 5 other kids. In 1895. Thats hard core. People were tough back then. |
Hi all! Pumpkin here. Feeling okay though I've got a cold and allergies. How's everyone else? Wavy, I am planning to go to the barre class this weekend if my cold passes, which I think is about 50/50 at this point. If not, I will be planning to go next week. JinDC, will miss you this week! It will be so much fun if we all end up going.
Afield, congrats on the twins! Wow! I thought we were possibly having twins early on but the sono said just one pea in the pod. One quick thing, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but I think twin weight gain is waaaaaaay more than that. The recommended range is 37 - 54 lbs! ![]() Anyway, this is for afield. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/pregnancy-weight-gain/PR00111 |
Pumpkin, have a fabulous time on Sunday! Do let me know how it is! I want to go, but I am thinking two days in a row to start off more PT isn't a good idea!
I loved going prior to ivf and then getting my Caribou iced coffee to renew the toxins ![]() The nail place in that building is good, too. Question: when is everyone's first tri over? If we wanted to have a gathering, just trying to see when that would be - i know there's a couple early November folks here! My 2nd tri starts April 28 (going by the start of the 14th week). Hopefully everything stays a-ok with the gummibear. It is pretty awesome that everyone who started here so early seems to still be here! Stay cool everyone. It's pretty gross out there. |
Afield your wife will probably be looking at more than 30 lbs! I am 5'1 and 92 pounds and my doctor told me she would like to see a 35 lb gain and I'm only carrying one! |
Wow. It's really going to be a big undertaking. I'm keenly aware that getting them as far to the goal line, so to speak, is a big deal toward their well being. Carrying them to full term as long as possible. Unless IUGR is an issue. Do people just plan for a CS in this situation? Otherwise, even if both head down, the second twin to be born can really get stressed. |
Pumpkin here. You'll find a wide range of thoughts on this - not sure about others but I'm pretty sure nobody on here has had twins (but maybe they have!). Anyway, I think it is probably very personal. I would personally want to try for vaginal birth if I were having twins but I know people who feel exactly the opposite! Of my two twin friends, one of them planned for a vaginal birth and ended up with one vaginal and one c-section. She said recovering from both a vaginal birth AND a c-section (yoy!) was extremely rough, but she still says she has no regrets and would try it again if she had it to do over. But she was very strongly in favor of vaginal birth and I can see someone less passionate about that going the other way. It really is highly individual. What does your wife want? You might want to post a spin off thread on the broader forum where other people can tell you from their experiences. Good luck! |
WebMD says Week 13, Mayo clinic says week 14! Funny, huh? With my first, I think I called myself second trimester around the midpoint of week 12 (taking some liberties there, perhaps, but I was anxious to get that show on the road!). This time, I don't really plan to "go public" until much later in my pregnancy, but I'll tell friends on a case by case basis starting, well, already. Anyway, since JinDC raised the trimester question and I googled and found like 90 different answers from credible sources, I thought maybe this would be fun to look at. http://www.baby2see.com/trimester_calculator.html#trimesters_explained Anyway, the start of week 14 for me is May 2 and I will be out of town. I'd be up for a meet up for sure though and I don't really care too much if it's slightly before I'm official. -pumpkin PS. J I thought it was hilarious that you refer to your baby as gummibear as that is what ours looked like at the 8.5 week sono! |
Hey all - I go by "end of 13th week" because I'm paranoid. I sort of wish we were "telling" our family a week later just to make sure. But I have an OB check up the wednesday before we go home, so I don't think anything will happen. But I'm a paranoid worry freak.
Has anyone seen the Alphamom pregnancy week-by-week calendar? If you haven't, definitely google it - it's hilarious. |
I was telling people on a need-to-know basis since 6w5d when we saw 2 good heartbeats. Like telling my supervisor-of-record, who I see very little anyway, that I may be out occasionally to go to checkups. Everybody knows the deal at that point.
Also we told our daughter, who is 6 and really has no reference point for what it means to her. But she seems less emotional now....it's like she guessed something was up but didn't know what. I made sure to tell her "it looks like you might be getting 2 siblings...we have to take extra good care of mom." Twins have a higher amount of complications and issues, in general,...we're just proceeding faithfully and will do the best we can. It has already become physically impossible to hide, at 12w3d. |
Pumpkin here OMG I hadn't seen it but it is a treasure. "(Of course, as I have learned, all bets are off for a second pregnancy, as my previously stretched-out joey-pouch belly has rejoiced at the chance to totally fulfill its poochy destiny once more.)" Crying here in laughter. And the post in general parenting about sick and allergic, etc? Yeah that's me. BOO. |
It's Interloper, J- that site is AMAZING! It is totally making my day! Also, this was definitely me: So if you’re pregnant and your boobs hurt yesterday but don’t hurt today, don’t panic, and don’t mash them into lumpy potatoes while trying to get reassurance that you’re still pregnant.
I also enjoy Pregnant Chicken and their pregnancy calendar. It's a little shorter, but also pretty funny, and I feel like the more laughing, the better! I'm going for another check up on Wednesday, and of course time is just crawling along... Pumpkin- feel better! Sick and allergic sounds absolutely miserable. |
YAY for Wednesday appointments!
I'll have to check out Pregnant Chicken. |
pumpkin here - i am another big pregnancy chicken fan. I love her attitude about the "no-no" list.
You guys should see the kleenex rich environment I have going on right now. This is madness, I am so so sick. I'm behind deadline on something and still can't get down to it. My son, aka patient zero because he is the source of the sick half of my sick / allergic malady, has breached the security of my makeshift home office (moved from my "real" home office in the finished basement to my, er, bed) and that's not really helping the work situation much. I'm covered with stickers and my husband is pretending he can't hear. Please send help (and, if possible, a nose transplant). |
Sepi here - I was totally going by the end of the 12th week for the end of the first trimester, even though there were so many different calendars out there. I was sooo disappointed to get a notification from babycenter that i was in the 2nd trimester at the end of the 13th week. boo!
On that note. I cant' tell you much better I started to feel this week as opposed to the first tri. i"m approaching 15 weeks (I think I'm a little further along than others commenting) I have gone out with friends almost every night, and actually ENJOYED myself. Some of the earlier issues seemed to have resolved themselves. I still get tired and famished, but boy, it's like night and day. I was absolutely miserable about 4 days ago. Nuts! welcome, afield! And please hug your wife for me. I can't imagine carrying twins. i'll check out those sites when i get home. good luck with appointments, etc, everyone! |
Hi all, Raspberry here - it's been a while! Sepi, when are you due? I'm due Oct 8, so I'll hit 15 weeks next Tuesday. Just started telling people more widely at work this week. It's been very sweet - everyone super excited for us (I work with a lot of young women ![]() Oh question for the crowd, has anyone else's skin started freaking out? Seriously, it's like I'm back in high school. Actually, worse than high school. Every time I turn around I find another break out in a random place, like behind my ears or under my arm. In the grand scheme of things, not a big deal obviously, but combined with entering these "doughy" middle weeks, I am just feeling so frumpy these days...Ah well, all for a good cause right! ![]() |
