October Due Dates: Please Join us!

Hi guys, it's Interloper. Thanks for the good thoughts!

jindc- I'm so sorry to hear about the cramping. This whole thing is nerve-wracking enough without anything strange happening (although, I guess the whole thing is pretty strange!), I can only imagine how you feel. I kind of wonder if it might be your gallbladder? I've been having issues with my gallbladder, at first I didn't know what it was, other than a stabbing pain that kind of came and went but felt like a cramp, and then I decided it was my gallbladder, but didn't want to prompt my doctor, so when I saw him, I just described the symptoms, and he instantly said gallbladder. Apparently it's pretty common in pregnant people, although usually happens later. Also, my mom had to have hers out, and it can definitely be hereditary. It sounds like it's higher than your uterus area, which seems like a good sign, even if that doesn't make it hurt any less or help with the worry. Anyhow, just a thought. Hang in there- sending good thoughts your way!

Peanut- on the pump issue, I've heard it's good to wait until you're closer to your due date because apparently a lot of the pumps come with a one year warranty, and you don't want that warranty to run out when your little one is only a few months old and then have an issue. That might not be the case in your situation, but something to look at. I've heard they come very quickly (at least thru BCBS), so even if you wait, from the time you place the order, it doesn't take too long for it to show up.

I finally started a November thread, so I'm trying to migrate over there, but I suspect I'll still pop up and say hi and see how everyone is doing!

Also, Pumpkin, I hope you feel better soon! Get some rest and hydrate!

jindc wrote:Starting on Tuesday I had some bad cramping - not the normal period type cramps I got early on, more like a runner cramp on my left side, under my rib cage, maybe 6" from my belly button (I'm chubby so it's in that general area!).
I called the nurse at GW and she said unless I wanted to come in to see if I had a UTI, there's nothing they could do since I didn't have any other issues (no bleeding, no fever, no vomit).
Anyone have this ever? It's not constant, so yesterday I took the day off (as much as I bitch about my job, I have an amazing boss who has had two miscarriages herself and truly worries about me, it's a huge blessing - today she was like "I JUST WANT YOU TO BE THROUGH THIS TRIMESTER!"). I basically laid around all day save for a couple of dog walks. When I sit at my desk, I don't feel anything. I am trying to move slowly and deliberately which seems to help.
If I were to scale it from 1-10, I'd give it a 5/6. It's like a stab/cramp but it doesn't make me want to curl up and I haven't taken tylonol (because I want to feel what's going on).

anyone?

I'm incredibly worried.....NT scan isn't until this coming Wednesday. SUCH a long wait. I hate this.

Hi there, I'm not a regular on this board yet but I have an October 14th due date. I just wanted to say that I think those cramps are too high to be an issue with the baby. The baby is probably much lower at this point. I hope this might ease your mind a bit.

JinDC, pumpkin one more time - sorry for bombing you with links but as I said, I'm home sick and have a lot of time on my hands today. Reading you say that it is happening after walking is DEFINITELY making me think this is round ligament pain, though it really still could be anything; gas pains, digestive issues, colon spasms. I would try some gentle stretching when it hurts. I agree with PP that it's so high up that it is really unlikely to be your uterus. Also, if you're going to have an obvious miscarriage, I think most of the time the spotting and bleeding starts BEFORE any cramping, and most people describe the cramps as very obviously in the reproductive area. Your uterus is still low, either just below or maybe just starting to peak out from behind your pelvic bone. Things shift around. Plus, parts that used to get a lot of oxygen don't anymore - so you really could actually just be getting a stitch / runner's cramp exactly. Especially if that's exactly what it feels like. It seems like you might have some high anxiety until you get to see baby and know that all is well, though. If you can't shake the feeling that something is wrong, could you call your midwife back and plead your case for an u/s or at least a doppler / heartbeat? At this point, you should be able to hear the heartbeat with a doppler. anyway, I don't want to downplay your fears, because obviously none of us know for sure what you're experiencing, but I just want to stress that these kinds of pains are very common in pregnancy.

Yeah, I called the OB and they said there's nothing they can do. I've thought about getting a fetal doppler but at the same time, I wonder if that makes it worse because I'd never know if it's my heart or the babies, ya know?

but you are right that it's not near the baby (that I know of!). I'm just trying to take one day at a time. There's not much to do. That, and I'm trying to have good posture at my desk in case this is all a result of me sitting weird - we have those stupid Aero chairs that are not meant to go with these desks. It's ssooo uncomfortable!

If the pain is severe and you have good insurance you could go to the ER and see if they will do one. It might help ease your mind since you have some time before your next appointment.

Well, the pain isn't so bad that I can't function. I simply notice it. Maybe I'm a bad judge because I have a relatively high pain threshold? lol

Maybe if it DOESNT go away at all by the weekend, Ill go to the ER but again, if there's nothing they can do, would it really matter? I have my NT scan on Wednesday then the following week, my regular OB appointment

ETA: I DO thank you all for the words of encouragement. I'm just a worrier, by nature, and pregnancy after IVF is not a good combo for a worrier! Maybe a fetal doppler is a worthwhile investment for someone like me?

Pumpkin here - I'm a worrier too. Sometimes all the reassurance in the world is just not going to reassure you when you've got something scaring you and that's normal too.... Pregnancy is NOT for the faint of heart!!! I personally found things much easier after I started feeling baby move; though of course, then you get paranoid there, too. "Is it just me or is baby moving less today? Ay yi yi!"

It's so easy to obsess. Would a doppler help, or cause you to obsess more? FWIW, baby's heart beats about 160 - 170 bpm right now, so that's how you'd know yours from baby's. It sounds unmistakably like galloping horses.

I think the reason people are saying go to the ER is that they think in the ER they'd give you a workup and rule out anything concerning (gallstones, kidney / bladder infection / and maybe even do an u/s). Though, since the cramps aren't anywhere near baby, I'm not even sure they'd give you an ultrasound. But...your health care provider might. My old OB, Dr. Malcolm Desouza, did an ultrasound at every appointment and I guarantee if I would have called him stressed out like this, he would have allowed me to come in just to ease my worries, but some OBs are just not that into reassuring us crazy pregnant ladies. That's what I was thinking when I said call your OB again; not that I think they should "do" something, but who wants to let a pregnant lady freak out all weekend?

Whatever it is, I hope it goes away so you can feel relaxed and calm again.

Heads up, B Fit Barre on 14th St just send an email that they will be having the prenatal barre class on Sundays at noon starting on 14 April!

you can sign up in advance or drop in. I plan on going assuming everything is OK with my little one.

If you've never done barre before and are "on the fence" about yoga (I might transition to yoga the bigger I get, assuming everything is OK!), this is a bit more active than yoga but you get a great work out and there is lots of stretching. It's not as zen as yoga - great music and if you are a regular, you definitely get to know people. Plus, the owner is a sweetheart and a half.

Pumpkin, Interloper here, random question. You said DeSouza was your old OB- why did you switch? This is very random, but I switched OBs last fall and was deciding between DeSouza and one other. After reading up as much as I could, I went with the other OB, and I'm totally happy with him, but in my typical fashion of over thinking everything, I just keep wondering what DeSouza would have been like, if he would have done this or that, etc. Anyhow, just curious!

I'll post a reminder the Friday prior, and if anyone wants to meet at Caribou before hand, that might be fun!

(we should plan an "end of the 1st trimester" gathering anyway once all of us are past that point....god willing!)

Speaking of which, what is the technical end of first trimester date? I always thought 12 weeks but I've read some things more recently that say 13 or 14 weeks. I really want it to be 12!

Last day of your 13th week. If you're extra worried to tell people, I'd say end of your 14th week.
