Anyone want to share their experience from ER to ET in terms of how many were retrieved and how they fared between retrieval and transfer? I know everyone is different but for some reason hearing from others seems to calm me down when there is nothing I can do about my own situation. |
IVF 1 we did the antagonist protocol. AFC of 12 that cycle and measured 9-11 follicles during monitoring. Estrogen began to decline prior to ER--ended up retrieving 7 follicles, 5 eggs, 4 were mature and all 4 fertilized with ICSI. We did a 3-day transfer of 3 "beautiful" 8-cell embies with 0% fragmentation. The 4th embie was a 6-cell and had 20% fragmentation. Our clinic did a 3dt, because by day 3 they could tell which embryos looked best.
IVF 2 we did micro dose lupron protocol. AFC 5 (over suppressed from BCPs), but ended up retrieving 23 follicles with 23 eggs, 16 were mature and 6 fertilized with ICSI. We did a 3dt of 1 early morula and 2 (8) cell perfect looking embies. The other 3 embies did not make it to freeze. Other info: I am 39 and DH has <2% morph. Cycle 2 we did get pregnant with identical twins, but it ended in miscarriage at 9 weeks. Both cycles I cycled with ladies who were in tears because of either having only 1 embryo left to transfer or embryos with 20-30% fragmentation. They are both still pregnant. Hang in there.... |
NCIVF
1 follicle 1 egg retrieved Fertilized via ICSI Transferred on day 3 a beautiful 8 cell. Still in 2ww |
First cycle, 5 eggs, 4 fertilized, did a 3 day transfer of two embies. The others did not make it to freeze. BFN from that cycle. Second cycle, 15 eggs retrieved, all were mature, 11 fertilized, 6 made it to 5 days. We transferred two fresh but got a BFN. They froze 4 and I am now 32 weeks with twins from a frozen transfer. Good luck! |
Cycle 1: Antagonist protocol with BCPs. Retrieved 6 eggs, did ICSI, and only two fertilized. One good looking embryo made it to transfer on day 3. BFN.
Cycle 2: Antagonist with EPP. Retrieved 6 eggs, ICSI again and 4 fertilized. Transferred two good looking embryos on day 3. BFN. Cycle 3: New clinic. Antagonist with EPP, immune protocol (intralipids, lovenox, prednisone), endometrial scratching and PICSI. Retrieved 6 eggs and 4 fertilized. Transferred 2 ok looking embryos on day 5. BFN. Cycle 4. Microdose lupron with BCPs, immune protocol (IVIG, lovenox, prednisone), endometrial scratching and PICSI. Still on the BCPs so we'll see how this one works out. Good luck with your cycle! If things don't work out on a cycle, don't be afraid to ask your RE about changing things up for the next one. |
My first cycle, 5 mature, 4 fertilized with ICSI, by day 5 there were 3 blasts - two of which were higher quality - and one morula. We transferred the two high quality blasts and the other two weren't freezable. Not sure of outcome, antagonist protocol with lupron trigger.
I felt better about the lack of freezable embryos by reading on a clinic's web site (not mine, judt in a general search) that only 20% of all embryos are truly freezable quality (can survive freeze and thaw). Good luck!! |
That's not true about embryo survival--if the clinic uses vitrification, 80% +, and at some clinics, 90% + survive the thaw. I don't believe that they have to be of a certain "quality" to survive. I had two frozen at day 2, both survived the thaw and divided afterward--and I'm AMA, and didn't get pregnant, so they weren't super embryos. I think clinics like SG put "stringent" quality requirements on freezing embryos because they'd rather have repeat business. Despite being so "stringent", SG has a very low FET success rate. Other clinics have a much higher rate and I'll bet it's because they're 1) better labs with better freezing and thaw and 2) they freeze more embryos, giving more of them a chance, as how they look does not seem to be a good reflection on their chromosomal normality/abnormality, which is the only important thing as far as whether it's a viable embryo. |
Wouldn't the embry still have to be high quality for it to be worth freezing? Either way, ours were considered high quality enough to freeze. Ours were one not great quality 5 day and one that stopped developing at day 4. |
"High quality" without genetic testing doesn't mean much--if you are on the forums for CCRM, for example, lots of the women do testing, and often their worst looking embryos are normal, the best looking abnormal--my friend there, as just one example, had three embryos, the BEST looking one was chromosomally abnormal, the other two were fine. They were frozen at Day 3, she is now pregnant from that FET. I also believe that embryos do better in you than in a lab, so some that they trash may have survived inside you, had they frozen them for use in an earlier (2 day or 3 day) transfer. A friend has a niece that they affectionately refer to when discussing their fertility journey as "C-", because that's the grade of the embryo that led to her. She would have been tossed by Shady Grove had she been one of the "leftovers" from a cycle. Meanwhile, as we know, great-looking A embryos fail to produce pregnancies all the time. So I don't believe the "high quality" thing is a legit reason to toss embryos. You cannot know which are high quality truly, without genetic testing. Shady Grove is really about playing the odds and cashing in on them, there is nothing personalized or compassionate about their practice. There, I feel like there may be the odd doctor that cares if you get pregnant but overall, it's pretty much, in their minds, your fault (your eggs) if you don't--they rarely examine their practices to improve them, unless it improves their profits or stats, or after some new approach has been proven somewhere else. It's all cost-benefit to them, not about helping any particular patient get pregnant. |
1st attempt at IVF - got pregnant easily but IVF with PGD was recommended due to AMA (42) and RPL (3 losses in 1 yr)
Retrieval: 12 follicles/ 10 mature/ 9 fertilized with ICSI PGD testing of all 9 at 3dt 7 out of 9 reported multiple chromosomal abnormalities (although all 9 "appeared" to be high quality Grade A with little or no fragmentation) Transferred 2 good embryos (both hatching blasts) at 5dt Now 13 weeks pregnant with twins |
We used a donor and froze everything we got for x-fer later.
23 eggs retrieved 15 were mature 13 fertilized w/ ICSI 13 still alive and kicking at day 3 5 blasts made it to the freeze All 5 blasts were biopsied for CGH 3 abnormal, 1 normal and 1 "no result" Xferred our 1 normal blast and she is sleeping upstairs now ![]() Getting ready to xfer the 1 remaining blast that came back "no result" |
First IVF - I was 37. Thirteen eggs retrieved, 11 mature, 9 fertilized, and ultimately, I ended up with 3 AA blasts on day 5 and transferred one (my DS). Froze the other two, but unfortunately our subsequent FETs were unsuccessful.
Second IVF - Now 39. Seven eggs retrieved, all were mature, 6 fertilized, and one made it to day 5 as a AA blast. Waiting on the results now. |
They have pretty good success rates so they must be doing something right. |
We used donor eggs. 19 were retrieved, 17 were mature, 15 embryos were created with ICSI. Ten made it to day 6 blastocyst stage, and were frozen. We transferred 2 - nothing. Transferred 2 again - nothing. Transferred 2 again - twins! We have 4 embryos left and are trying to figure out what to do with them. We are looking at donating them to another couple. |
