I'm looking for advice on which fertility clinics in the DC area (and preferably in DC, b/c we don't have a car, but live and work in DC) are the most affordable for IVF (and in our case, IVF with ICSI). We don't have any insurance coverage for anything other than diagnostics, and we don't have large incomes. Thank you in advance for any advice. |
OP, look for the clinic that has the best stats and a shared risk program. The cheapest clinic is the one that gets you pregnant fastest, so go with the one that is best for your diagnosis (if you have one). It's expensive no matter what. And be willing to travel to the suburbs or wherever you need to for the best treatment. Good luck! |
There really aren't any inexpensive IVF clinics in the area. You might have to travel out of the area for that. If male factor is your issue, you might consider natural cycle IVF with Dominion Fertility. That's fairly reasonable, though success rates aren't as high as stimulated IVF. |
Natural is not the way to go with ICSI or a low budget. Go to Shady Grove; they are so big that their lab is the most practiced in the area and that is what you want for ICSI.
Good luck. When you go for your first appt they will sit you down with a financial counselor or give you one to call. |
Our insurance also does not cover IVF but they have a negotiated rate with Shady Grove that is quite good. $9500 for IVF+ICSI but the medications are not covered. |
+1 |
GW is always willing to work with you on cost and their financial guy is great. I would recommend Dr Frankfurter and they are right across from Foggy Bottom metro. |
Look for the clinic that addresses your specific problems the best. Just going by clinic stats alone will do you no good if they don't specifically do a lot of cases for people with your problem. Do a shared risk program if you can. I can't tell you how many people run off to ccrm expecting success b/c they are considered "the best", don't do a shared risk program and then are out all of that money. At least with shared risk, you get some or all back. |
+1, people have different issues and you need to find a doctor/ clinic that addresses your needs
good luck OP |
What are your issues? NCIVF is $4400 with ICSI at Dominion. Not sure if they have a DC office though. |
We haven't started IVF at GW yet (and we do have insurance), but I will second that the GW financial guy (not sure if it's okay to put his name) is awesome! He's just super knowledgeable and attentive, always returns calls/emails right away. Overall very helpful in terms of navigating the craziness that is financing fertility. Night and day contrast to some other DC clinics (CFA, I'm looking at you). We've done several cycles elsewhere, and GW is a huge step up in terms of service and help from the financial team. I've also found that GW's quoted prices are lower than some other clinics...don't know if it's the lowest. |
I agree in that Brian, their financial guy, is amazing. We have insurance and our share of ivf w/ ICSI is about $5500 not including embryo freezing if we are fortunate enough to have extras. I don't know what the rate wold be without coverage but they ate very open and straightforward with that aspect. Also, they put us on a payment plan (we paid 50% and have 6 months to pay the rest, u less we need another cycle right away....we have to have zero balance to do a other round...hopefully we won't but I understand that policy). Hope that helps |
Thank you, all. I'm the OP. Just to give more details, we have a strong male factor problem (poor morphology) and I'm already 38 (so I don't qualify for shared risk at GWU) and I may have suboptimal fertility as well (we're trying to get to the bottom of that, but still trying to figure out my problems). We've been to Columbia Fertility but have since switched to Shady Grove (b/c they at least give discounts based on income, and have the multi-cycle IVF with ICSI for a "reduced" cost). But before we commit to actually going through IVF with ICSI, I'm trying to make sure there isn't a more affordable place than Shady Grove to do IVF with ICSI. Thanks again for any advice/recommendations. |
I didn't know GW has shared risk but that's good to know
Good luck, op! |
GW will also price match any other clinic's quoted price. Just FYI. The nurses there are great too! I love the nurse I see in the mornings, Katherine. Always so helpful! |
