Our 1960 home currently has vinyl siding - which I'd like to replace. Since it's a shady lot, green stuff grows on the siding and it needs to be power washed once or twice a year. Combine that with a color we don't like and this stuff has got to go. What product do you like that requires no (or nearly no) maintance. I heard there's some cement board stuff that looks like siding and is already colored - anyone have experience with it?
Hardie plank
We did Hardie plank. There are a few more brands, including Certainteed.
Stucco
it's quite heavy and will put a lot of weight on the building. Other than that, a very good product that also holds paint well. |
Go with a fiber cement (Hardie or certainteed). I know Hardie comes pre-finished and will last 10-15 years. Do not go Stucco whatever you do. It cracks and water gets in it.
Agree with PP. don't do stucco. Fiber cement is way to go. Certainteed or hardie.
