Isn't that science, though? Fertility research has to be done somehow I gather.

^^ Certainly a fair point, and my use of "scientific research" was overly broad. It's science, it's just important to be clear about what kind of research you're (you meant generically here) donating embryos for (obviously). I don't think ongoing research in their on-site lab is what most people think of when they think about donating embryos for "science." I think most people think of stem cell research, genetic diseases, etc. It's important for people to know that you can't donate embryos for that kind of research. Just clarifying. That's all.

Totally agree....I think they could help you if you specifically wanted stem cell donation though.

Look, even if the research is in-house, it's going toward improving their ability to provide couples with families. As someone who has gone through infertility as was fortunate enough to come out with children, that's a research use I can definitely get behind.
For us, we kept them for 5 years. It was the equivalent of a fertile couple sticking with a reversible form of birth control for a number of years "just in case" before moving on to a vasectomy or tubal ligation. After that, we donated them for research with a clear conscience.
